Sen. Vitter just said that Blanco should have "blown past" posse comitatus
He said that there were too many lawyers involved and that active duty military personnel should have been used to maintain law and order. "Blowing past" laws is just SOP for Republicans, isn't it?

(paraphrased)

:wow:

3. Bush declared a State of Emergency BEFORE THE STORM
Homeland Security was in charge from that point on. Even when the Gov and the Mayor made requests they were either lied to or ignored.

4. I agree with part of that.
I think she should have done it legally. No shenanigans.

5. Sounds like they want to use this disaster to get rid of posse comitatus.
When, in fact, if people had been allowed to go in and rescue people from the beginning this wouldn't have been so horrible.

People arriving from all areas of the country were turned away by FEMA.

6. We need to be vigilant, history can repeat itself.
Remember those loathsome aspects, of the Patriot Act, which were hastily passed after a "national crisis". It wouldn't surprise me if Bush/neocons would try to rewrite the Posse Comitatus under the pretext of protecting Americans. This Administration is not above invoking a crisis to serve its own agenda.

I didn't know about FEMA turning people back, thanks.

Vigilance with a capital "V"!

7. This is purely sick, FEMA sat by on its hands...
Demand accountability of every last one of them.
