WRAL/NC Reporting SuperDome Folks had Wedding/Family Pics Confiscated
They did a report on the "clean up" of the SuperDome after the evacuee's have left and said that "personal effects" in bags were amonst the items left to clean up, because folks were told they couldn't bring their "personal effects" on the buses that were taking them to other shelters.

Among the "personal effects" were wedding and famiy pictures and personal memorabelia."

This is the first I've heard of this. Sounds to me like the SS in Nazi Germany. I can't see any excuse for this. My Conservative News Channel is reporting it...so I assume it's true because they don't go out of their way to report much that doesn't show Bush as the Great P-Resident.

2. Any psychiatrists in the house?
How does this dehumanizing affect people? Why the cruelty to these people?

4. They talk about the "mental health" problems these people face...
But they literally purge their identities.

They managed to save a few pictures, some clothes, and their dog....and all must be left behind by this heartless, vicious assault posing as "rescue"?

Because George really has to have them out of New Orleans FAST now that he's been caught?

6. And they weren't even allowed to walk out of the city if they wanted to
according to Geraldo.

Damn, even convicted felons are allowed to have personal memorabilia in their cells.

8. This would never happen
if that dome was full of affluent white people. If it had, I can just imagine the heartfelt story they'd be showing on CNN about how a clean up person found a wedding picture and somehow tracked down the owner (cue the owner tearfully hugging the picture and the finder demurely watching).

9. My daughter and I are animal lovers
What we saw on TV yesterday made her so angry that she said, "I'm not sending any money to the Red Cross, let Bush take care of the HUMAN BEINGS!! She's sending her donations to the NOLA ASPCA and animal rescue!! There was a family boarding one of the buses FINALLY, and they had thier little fluffy white dog that was a part of the family for nine years. After much pleading they were told that they could not get on the bus with the dog. It showed them putting the dog down on the ground, as they boarded the bus, and the camera got a shot of it walking away!!! I'm crying as I write this, because although I think human life takes first place over the animals, we humans are their caregivers!! This family I'm sure were loving pet owners. They couldn't leave their beloved pet behind. My daughter said she would have refused the bus ride before she'd leave a "family member" behind. For my emotional state of mind, this was kind of like the last straw! I wasn't going to post anything about it, until I read the origional post here on this thread. It's appalling that they weren't allowed to take their personal belongings. I think it's also appalling that they couldn't take their beloved pet either. DAMN!!! You can take a dog on an airline if it's carrier fits under the seat!!! What more are they going to do to these poor people to deny them of their humanity, let alone thier DIGNITY, and personal freedoms!!!!!
