and making them leave their personal items behind, women being separated from their babies, men being separated from their families.
Tonight...it finally crystalized in my mind why it bothered me so much.
It reminded me of the trains in Auschwitz. Now I understand the aversion I have had to seeing these people loaded up like this.
Anyone else get that same chill up their spine?

Edited for disclaimer: This isn't intended to minimize or trivialize the people who were sent to Auschwitz. Merely to draw a parallel on the way that the human beings in both situation were being handled on their way to their destinations.

They don't get to bring anything or they die

They can't save their pets or they die

They must leave other people to die or they die

They must leave their family or they die

Kinda like slave ships and slave auctions...

First story was a mom who gave her baby to a total stranger who was on the bus leaving, knowing her baby might not be alive to wait until the next bus.
Second was a mother was separated from her child in a rescue and they put her 2 year old on a bus without her.:(

21. I was stopped like that once.
I was driving from the city of Detroit (where I lived and worked) to stay overnight with my family in the 'burbs during the Detroit riots of '67. I had three carbines pointed at me and had to produce ID, describe my destination and reason, and allow my car to be searched.

It's not fun to have a loaded carbine pointed at you. I didn't even get used to it in Nam in '69.

Initially the NG was asking "Are you together?" and was keeping families together... but now...

It's disgusting how these people are being treated.

22. On Houston TV tonight
On Houston TV tonight they had three little children with no parents at a shelter here. They had another couple looking all over town for a 4 year old child.

This is really sick.

That's what took so long to get them out of there. They took away anything that looked new according to a WWL report I saw, concluding that new stuff had to be looted stuff.

...who was made to give up his little dog. "Snowball! Snowball!" he screamed over and over. Then he cried so hard he vomited. No one could tell him what would happen to his dog.
