Rehnquist deserved no respect either in life or in death-Post reflections |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 02:09 AM by fujiyama
He was a racist old bastard that never really accepted the idea that blacks should have equal rights as whites.
Had he been on the SC, he likely would have voted against Brown vs. Board. He considered forced integration judicial activism.
I have nothing good to say about the man. We don't need to piss on his grave because it's a waste of time. Instead it's worth recalling all the wrong decisions he made.
In fact let's use this thread that for that purpose. A reflection on one of the worst Cheif Justices of the Supreme Court.

However, can I please piss on his grave. He and the other corrupt 4 destroyed all my faith and trust in America. I owe him one.

A states' rights advocate suddenly does an about-face and takes a bona fide state issue out of state courts to appoint his personal preference for president. And the reasoning was worse! First, the recount was suspended because it could not be determined if all the votes could be counted by an arbitrary deadline created by the Supreme Court. Then, when that deadline arrived, Rehnquist and his ilk decided that there was not, in fact, enough time to recount all the votes. DUH!
Planned Parenthood v. Casey, Lawrence v. Texas... this guy was on the wrong side of everything!
edit: oh yeah, UC v. Bakke, Roe v. Wade, pretty sure he was on the wrong side of both (they are long decisions and i am too tired to look). I am sure he would have upheld Plessy v. Ferguson had he been on the courts in the 50s.

6. Yep he was a right wing GOP activist |

He loved hunting in elitist areas with Cheney. He voted right wing every chance. He was your true elitist. He didn't like poor people.

that's Scalia you're thinking of.
And in some ways he's even FARTHER right than Rehnquist.

When I heard the news I got on my knees and thanked god that his ignorance would no longer guide our nation. Yes its crass to speak mean of the dead but I will never in all my born days forget that he stabbed this nation in the back and performed like a trained poodle in a very public masquerade ball and sold out thirty years of his own jurisprudence for the equivalent of a six pack and a bag of chips. Many will honor him in death but not I.

costume goes with him. How ridiculous - he wanted gold braids on his crap decisions. His installation of little lord pissy pants assured the demise of this once great country.

he stated "we conquered them. why should we pay for the land?" Funny he would serve on the court with Thomas. He never had a black aide in his office.

A racist ass hole.
Just because they are American and had a place in the Washington DC power structure, doesn't mean I have to respect them. I won't shed any tears for that bastard Jesse Helms either when he keels over...and there are quite a few other policians and officials in DC and all over the ntion who are unworthy of sympathy or respect.
This is like saying, David Duke should have been respected had he been elected as La governor. Politicians are not automatically worthy of respect.

I don't know anything about them. I doubt they are racist ass holes and I'm sure the sons or daughters greive for they lost a loved one, but Rehnquist HIMSELF was a racist ass hole and I don't think that should be whitewashed.
Anyone that actually intimidated people from voting soley because of their race is unworthy of respect. And from all indication he never regretted those antics either. Instead he called decisions allowing equality "judicial activism".
