Brief note from NOLA evacuee

Computer access is limited here due to the hordes of children insisting upon playing video games 24/7, so this will be brief.

Many of you expressed concern regarding my staying in NO. Just wanted to let everyone know, my wife was safely evacuated to Baton Rouge from the hospital. It makes for a nightmarish tale, but I managed to get the kids and myself evacuated to San Antonio on Friday. Still recovering from dehydration and heat exhaustion, but we're all safe.

Thanks to everyone for their wishes and concern. What comes tomorrow, who knows? For now, we're safe and that, when it comes down to it, is all that really matters.

I was so worried about you being in that hospital, especially after what I heard on the news about the New Orleans hospitals. I'm glad to see your wife is OK, how about you?

If you want to find more personal housing, please post in the Lounge-or better yet, I'll start a thread in the lounge so that people will know your'e ok. I'm sure a DUer in San Antonio will gladly take you and your kids in...or check out moveon.org, who has thousands of people offering beds.

What other needs do you have? Clothing, I'm sure, but anything else like money or food or anything else?

I have to admit that I would like to pull the plug on them and let them learn how to read books and play with each other for entertainment.

I am also grateful beyond words to hear the hordes of children are well enough to insist on playing video games and that there are computers available for them -- fear and boredom can be soul-killers.
