(I posted this as a response to another thread on whether Dems should be bitching and pointing fingers right now, or rolling up their sleeves and helping, and saving the criticism and demand for answers for later. A friend suggested I post it as a separate thread.)

New Orleans Changes EVERYTHING.

IMHO, it is VERY important to show REAL take-charge leadership, while ALSO keeping the fires of outrage STOKED TO THE MAX... and the BEST way for Dems to do that is to get off their asses and make VERY visible efforts to alleviate the suffering of the trapped victims, while at the SAME TIME taking a break each time they airlift another helicopter load of survivors to safety (are you listening, Al?) to totally REAM Butch out for the shit job all his new and innovative organizations are doing; to call attention to the stuff they're experiencing first-hand on these missions of mercy, and to marvel openly at the fact that the united states is acting with such incredibly shameful incompetence that it doesn't even deserve to be capitalized anymore (haha, pretty subtle, eh?)... then say, "Hate to cut this short, but I gotta go pick up another load of desperate people the administration has left to drown like rats. Stick around; I'm sure I'll have more horror stories when I return." Then go out and do it again; rest and repeat as necessary.

Not all could get that deep in the trenches; but some COULD work DIRECTLY with groups of the newly-released survivors, even help to assemble pre-fab temporary housing and the like which they've found ways to procure... and then they'd STILL have some first-hand experience, and could relate the horror stories of those who were left in that Hell pit for 5 and more days...

In THIS way, the people doing the criticizing would wield a greater authority in their claims of Butchian incompetence and dereliction of duty; if they themselves are on the front lines, doing the work neglected by the neocon asshats, won't they present the STARKEST and most OBVIOUS contrast of Dem's passionate and determined capability, vs. Republican casual indifference, rather transparent racist tendencies and total cluelessness?

Let our good Dems stand in bloodied shirts from helping to lift and carry wounded people, and keep repeating "WHY FIVE DAYS? WHY DIDN'T THEY AIRDROP WATER AND FOOD AND BASIC MEDICINES IN RIGHT AWAY? WHY DIDN'T FEMA KNOW THERE WERE 20,000 PEOPLE TRAPPED IN THE SUPERDOME UNTIL 3 DAYS AFTER EVERYONE ELSE KNEW? IS THIS THEIR IDEA OF SMART AND EFFICIENT LEADERSHIP? WHY WOULDN'T THEY LET THE STARVING PEOPLE SIMPLY WALK OUT ON WEDNESDAY AND GO TO WHERE FOOD AND FRESH WATER WAS? HOW CAN ANYONE FEEL SAFE WITH THESE INCOMPETENTS IN CHARGE?"

Then, AFTER the MAJOR crisis is over in a week or so, they can begin to present the EVIDENCE...

When we are screaming it, they should to as they are our elected reps. Right? The represent us. That was my understanding anyway. Sometimes I am certain that people have forgotten they are supposed to represent us. Not just occupy a seat with a dem ass so a pug can't get in on the musical chairs. But when they sit down, the majority act like Pugs. The majority have voted consistently WITH THE PUGS for years now.

I ask you is that any better than electing a Pug? Actually I would argue it is worse. At least if a Pug ass sits down and votes against our wished, we will not need feel betrayed. They were quite honest about opposing US. Many Dems act ever 4 or 6 years like they really arte going to vote the was their constituents would like and them they turn around and plunge a knife into our backs.

Accountability is a two way street people. I never hear our side stop screaming about holding Bush and the Pugs accountable, We marvel that he and his buddies are allowed to get away with it. We bitch that they do not police their own.

Well, folks we have to police our own too. Otherwise we will be left up to our necks in sewage and surrounded by gators!

Throw them out and tell them why. You DID NOT represent us. You failed miserably. You are fired. A nice strong message to send other politicos that may want their job.

Unless we rid ourselves of these DINO's we will surely die as a nation.

6. Yep! Still waiting for the Dem leaders to get off their asses

I see Jesse Jackson down there trying to wake people up. Jesse never lets us down. I see the media finally showing signs of life and a few are starting to share our outrage at our government's purposeful genocide.

They are setting us up for another 9/11 as sure as I am typing this. When we are attacked next week or next month, we go under Marshall Law. There won't be any elections for us to worry about.

Where are the others we have elected and paid so handsomely with stature and monetary compensation? Why are they not speaking up? Have they been paid off or have their daughters been threatened?

I shudder with horror at what our nation has become.

7. At THIS point, a physical presence in the Disaster Area....

...would be grandstanding and camera mugging, and the Dems NEED to point this out about the Repubs that are shamelessly posing for the cameras and actually interfering with the REAL help in New Orleans ans the Gulf Coast.

The VERY BEST THING that Democrats can do NOW is to PUBLICLY (and frequently) support the Mayor and Governor of Louisiana who ARE pointing their fingers (at the Republicans & Bush*) and ARE being attacked by the Republican Slime Machine.


The BEST thing the Democrats can do NOW is to get in front of EVERY TV Camera they can find and repeat OVER & OVER:

*The Republicans DEFUNDED Programs that would have fixed the 17th St Levee BEFORE Katrina.

*The Republicans gutted FEMA and appointed incompetent CRONYS to head an agency that American LIVES depended on.

*thousands died on the Gulf Coast because The Republicans sent our National Guard to Iraq

*that The Republicans sent the Corp of Engineers to Iraq where they spent BILLIONS of American Dollars, but couldn't fund Corp of Engineer programs to protect the American People!

*That the Homeland Security Department created by The Republicans to safeguard the American People is a COMPLETE FAILURE that only redirects BILLIONS of Taxpayer money into the pockets of RICH REPUBLICAN pockets!

The Dem party should also take some of our millions and buy up all the air time available on every network and cable station and point out the lies and harm beig done to this country at this very minute.

19. Well, if you actually hit the link and read my larger piece...

You'd know I'm aware that very few can get in there, but as I see it there are many other things they can do while working DIRECTLY with some of the survivors... this is key; they have GOT to get down into the trenches... maybe not as deep as Gore did, but if they all just stay up on Capitol Hill, their distant voices will carry very little real weight or validity in the debate.
And the BEST way they can garner face time with the media would be to WORK DIRECTLY with rescued survivors, and in being interviewed make sure to SHARE some of that face time with the TRUE FACES of the survivors of this yet-unfolding horror...
So please, next time you want to correct me, make sure you've actually read what I wrote.
