3. He just broke down and cried as he recounted
how one elderly woman drowned on FRIDAY after she had been told Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday how someone was going to come save her. He cried like a baby. And what are they doing now? Going to that lying motherfucker Haley Barbour who is just praising the federal efforts to high heaven. Fucking republican--they and their culture of death who only care about embryos and the brain dead and fuck the living.

52. It was the MOTHER of the pres of their EMA!
He was trying to do his job, and everyday his hospitalized mother would call. Every day he told her someone was coming. She drowned Friday night.

This PROVES the local authorities can't be blamed! Don't you think the pres of the local EMA would do everything he could to save his own MOTHER!

Totally DESTROYS B*'s blame shifting.

The lady died the day before yesterday? OMG!! Sorry, but I don't watch corporate media, and didn't see this show. But from what I've been undetstanding, the situation was somewhat under control by this past Friday. OMG, I can't believe they let that poor woman, and who knows how many others, wait there day after day....

46. New Orleans did not sustain as much damage
from the hurricane, it was after the hurricane when the levees broke that NO started having the problems. Mississippi was blown away, most of it was just blown off the map. You can see NO flooding, but you can't see Mississippi towns at all. This is no time to be abusive and competitive about who got the worst. Both places are devistated...

My point was directed to Haley Barbour.

I'm not being abusive or competitive about who got the worst end of the deal (hurricane).

We saw the damage in Biloxi and the Mississippi coastline. You're absolutely right, it was blown away. Megadevastation....

Report: Aaron Broussard, Judge Subpoenaed In Corruption Probe

POSTED: 5:37 am CDT August 18, 2005

NEW ORLEANS -- Two more Jefferson Parish officials are being drawn into the corruption probe dubbed Operation Wrinkled Robe, according to a newspaper report.

The Times-Picayune reports that investigators have issued subpoenas to Parish President Aaron Broussard and 24th District Judge Kernan "Skip" Hand.

He was caught by FBI video surveillance taking an envelope stuffed with money from a Bail Bonds Unlimited employee.

She drowned Friday night.

33. A president of one of the NO parishes (don't remember which)
is telling how the guy who is in charge of the building from which he's doing this interview was on the phone with his mother who was stranded in a hospital all last week and he kept telling her, "someone's coming on Tuesday, momma," "someone's coming on Wednesday, momma," "someone's coming on Thursday, momma," and she drowned on Friday.

He was breaking down and crying through the whole description. He said "no one's coming to help us. we've been abandoned"

Mostly paraphrasing but you might get the picture.

He was in tears and could barely talk but he described what that poor man and woman went through.

34. I'm not sure who he is
President of Jefferson Parish? Anyway, he was telling about all the things they tried to do to provide relief and how they were thwarted by FEMA at every turn. Then he started thanking his people who were working for him. He told about one man whose mother is in a nursing home who called him every day, saying, "Are you coming to get me, son?" And the son would say, "Yes, Mama, someone's coming." And every day it would be, "Someone's coming tomorrow..."

And while he was telling this he started crying until by then end he put his face in his hands, sobbing.

It was absolutely heartbreaking.

44. He said FEMA cut his emergency communication lines too
and that he reconnected them and then posted armed guards there so that they wouldn't do that again. Why in the world would they do that? I just don't get it. Maybe it's too much evil for my mind to comprehend. I don't doubt that they did it but what kind of souless human would do such a thing? What did they hope to gain from doing that? Keeping the word from getting out about just how much they are botching things up down there? That is the ONLY reason I can come up with.

I watched that interview and went from anger about the FEMA action on the emergency communications line to sobbing for the story for the emergency management head and his family.

Draw and quarter the lot of them!

47. Last night my husband
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 10:44 AM by SheilaT
was reading a poll from the Washington Post/ABC which indicated 49% of those surveyed approved of the way this "president" was handling the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. He was reading it to me last night from whatever site he was looking at. 501 people surveyed on Friday evening, margin of error 4%. We were aghast at those results.

Weirdly enough, I cannot seem to find that poll on the internet right now. Was it pulled? Was it some kind of a fake to begin with?

***Update. The information I slightly misquoted above is in the second half of the poll which is headlined "72% say Gas Scalping is tied to Storm." Read it and say what you think.

link added: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/03/AR2005090301164.html

The only explanation that makes sense to me is that a lot of people have this reflexive adherence to authority, or the appearance of authority. It's sort of like the way Southerners or people in the service are taught to say sir and ma'am and there may or may not be a genuine respect behind the word. A lot of people -- too many in my opinion -- think that no matter what we must respect and look up to the president and not question him no matter what. And so since BushCo is very good at producing the trappings of authority and competence, with utterly no substance behind them, those people ("respecters of authority") assume that Our Glorious Leader is actually leading.

We here of course know that's not the case.

I do hope more and more will see through this cabal. And that it will be brought down, but I'm not holding my breath.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9179790/

MR. AARON BROUSSARD: We have been abandoned by our own country. Hurricane Katrina will go down in history as one of the worst storms ever to hit an American coast, but the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina will go down as one of the worst abandonments of Americans on American soil ever in U.S. history. I am personally asking our bipartisan congressional delegation here in Louisiana to immediately begin congressional hearings to find out just what happened here. Why did it happen? Who needs to be fired? And believe me, they need to be fired right away, because we still have weeks to go in this tragedy. We have months to go. We have years to go. And whoever is at the top of this totem pole, that totem pole needs to be chain-sawed off and we've got to start with some new leadership.

It's not just Katrina that caused all these deaths in New Orleans here. Bureaucracy has committed murder here in the greater New Orleans area, and bureaucracy has to stand trial before Congress now. It's so obvious. FEMA needs more congressional funding. It needs more presidential support. It needs to be a Cabinet-level director. It needs to be an independent agency that will be able to fulfill its mission to work in partnership with state and local governments around America. FEMA needs to be empowered to do the things it was created to do. It needs to come somewhere, like New Orleans, with all of its force immediately, without red tape, without bureaucracy, act immediately with common sense and leadership, and save lives. Forget about the property. We can rebuild the property. It's got to be able to come in and save lives.

We need strong leadership at the top of America right now in order to accomplish this and to-- reconstructing FEMA.

<snip>

MR. BROUSSARD: Sir, they were told like me, every single day, "The cavalry's coming," on a federal level, "The cavalry's coming, the cavalry's coming, the cavalry's coming." I have just begun to hear the hoofs of the cavalry. The cavalry's still not here yet, but I've begun to hear the hoofs, and we're almost a week out.
