Landreau On "This Week" Threatens To Punch Bush If He Keeps Criticizing!
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 08:36 AM by DistressedAmerican
That is LEADERSHIP!

Says if Bush keeps criticizing she "may have to punch him, literally".

That is the fighting I want in my elected reps. Ready to rumble and taking no prisoners!

She Rocks!

Go Senator. When they start crying like babies and demanding apoligies tell them to fuck themselves! No More Apologies.

for; "unacceptable results" - Brown's Fema was turning away wal-mart trucks with water and Buses from other states because they wern't signed off by Fema so she has every right to feel that Bush dragged his ass with help!

14. Well she was kissing some major butt earlier on. Maybe I rushed to
judgment though. Maybe since she has been literally trying to work with this administration through out both her terms as Senator (this is her 2nd isn't it?) she thought she would get more by seeming to more supportive then critical of the administation initial response.

100. For what it's worth, I saw that she was begging for help, not sucking up.
I thought it was clear that Bush was taunting the LA officials with help, and the only way she thought she could get it was to kiss his ring. She was doing what she thought she had to in order to get help for her people.

And I've disagreed with her a lot in the past, but I understand that she did everything she could, and that it wasn't easy to swallow her pride and praise Bush's nonexistent aid.

I'm glad she's fighting now that the rescue efforts have come to a premature close.

....is what she was trying earlier. That is always the first way in traditional government relations.

But I fault her for not realizing (LONG, long ago) that the ways of traditional civil discourse are like so much toilet paper to the devolved frat-boys of this administration.:banghead:

90. Let's try again, because I don't want to leave this unanswered
As a former resident of Baton Rouge, I ACTUALLY DO KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. Landrieu's district includes Baton Rouge, which when combined with New Orlean, makes for a quite large liberal/progressive voter base. How do I know this? Because I voted for her when she was first running for the Senate. Landrieu comes from a small political dynasty in Louisiana and she narrowly won her first election over a fairly strong Repuke.

Baton Rouge actually has an Air America radio station, and the surrounding LSU campus area is a hotbed of liberal/progressive activity.

Maybe you shouldn't assume that just because I'm critical that I don't know what I'm talking about...

coupled with lots of phone calls to her office complaining about her thanking Bush for not helping her constituents is most likely what made her ovaries kick into high gear.

66. It's okay sure
but it sure is dopey.

The other day Mary L. was lambasted here because, although she had probably been up for some days and would do and say pretty much anything to help her local people, she was saying too many nice things about Bush.

And I'm no fan of Landrieu, either.

Anderson Cooper was lauded for his rudeness to her, and I'll say now what I said then: When I see Cooper get as aggressive with a Repukelican as he did with her, then I will laud him.

Let him get up in Bush's face and ask him, the main cause of this disaster second to the hurricane, why he cut the funding to the ACOE and left our country horribly vulnerable to this and god knows what else that is coming down the pike.

Peace.

"Anderson Cooper was lauded for his rudeness to her, and I'll say now what I said then: When I see Cooper get as aggressive with a Repukelican as he did with her, then I will laud him."

Still - I was freaking when Landrieu was kissing ass. I think now that it may have been related to the Feds saying to people at various levels that "You are on your own for 48 hours - after that the cavalry will arrive." I don't have a link to this, I think I heard Nagin or some other local/state person say it.

Hell, in times past, OUR legislators used to carry weapons into the congress. Situations got real iffy in those days.

Normally we like it when people can communicate in a decent, respectful manner. But these are NOT normal times. Don't know about everyone else but I am fed up with the nice nice in our government when it comes to controversy. What's wrong with BOOING like they do in Englands Parliment? What's wrong with shouting out an objection. If cheney can spout off a FY in the senate (to Leahy), why can't our side do the same damn thing? Nice Nice doesn't get it in times of such maniacled leadership. Take off the gloves!

This was an amazing interview, heartfelt and real.

And you know, she's right. Think on it, the ENTIRE CITY and MILES OF COASTAL LOUISIANA is COMPLETELY DEVASTATED and what the state & local government managed to do with NO FEDERAL HELP FOR DAYS is remarkable.

Sure, they could have done things better, sure there was lack of preparedness. But think of what could have been done and lives saved if they had gotten Federal help in by Tuesday, Wednesday, even Thursday.

Sorry, but the Administration failed and the buck stops at the desk of the worst President in American History.

I got my democrat-attacking-GOP-dickhead stories mixed up.

Clinton was responding to Hastert saying that he didn't think it made sense to rebuild New Orleans. Clinton said that if Hastert had said that around him, he was afraid he'd have to pop him in the mouth.

93. And maybe Seantor Landrieu learned leadership the HARD WAY!
reality was not kind to people who tried to stay nice and polite and do as they were told. MANY DIED for trying to do things that way! It needed to brought to her forcefully and full and I am sorry it took such a heavy loss for her to learn what many here already knew.

It is unfortunate that cheap critics espouse being nice in the face of overwhelming odds. If that was the way Americans thought this country would have never existed or changed.

Your fellow DU'ers own their words, opinions and their keyboards. An opinion for whatever the reason as long as within the rules is permissable.

27. Impeach CEO Bush-Now

Enough is enough. I've emailed my Senators Durbin and Obama and my congressperson to begin an impeachment hearing immediately.

We the People should demand that this president be the CEO that he claims to be and resign from his position of honor and trust. Any other CEO whose horrible job performance caused hundreds, perhaps thousands, to die would be fired by the corporations board of directors.

Her whole world destroyed, she would have it in her to start the proceedings and the clout with the republicans. For some reason I don't hold hope Obama starting it.

Most of the democrats over there don't have it, for some reason they on the left are "SEARCHING" for a reason to impeach......Well you got one right IN FRONT OF YOU, AND CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS, THE WORKS!

I'm so glad to hear this! How dare they try to blame the local government when the local government was doing the best they could and were begging for assistance and were IGNORED by this callous, heartless administration--who were too busy vacationing, golfing, fundraising, etc.

Here's a link to contact Mary Landrieu:

http://landrieu.senate.gov/contact/index.cfm

She needs to know that a lot of people agree with her and are happy that she is standing up to this lying administration who is only finally giving a shit now that it is affecting them politically. I'm so mad I could spit!!!

And while I'm at it, here is the governor's email page:

http://www.gov.state.la.us/govemail.asp

I would have included the mayor's email but couldn't find it.

and a brigade of citizens will come in to release her. Sensing a political storm a private meeting will be arranged and she will snap his spoiled frat boy ass with a stiff left jab and a clean uppercut.

Then we will see a bruised President who claims to have fallen off his bicycle as the training wheels were removed.

enthusiastically, dogmatically, and sometimes viciously. Personally, I always thought that Mary would do her best for Louisiana. I submit that is exactly what she has been doing and is still doing.

Remember how quickly and erroneously people jumped to exactly the WRONG conclusion next time you want to go all Lord of the Flies on someone.

And we're not even members of that organization. And that sort of knee-jerk reaction is precisely one of the things I find most distressing about many of the posters here.

It is as though they believe that all they have to do is say "DLC" and that should induce everyone to go Lord-of-the-Flies on them. Sorry. I do not buy that crap. It is wrong in so many ways ... logically, intellectually, morally, and politically ... that there is little sense in going into it now.

You can get whiplash here with who is in and who is out.

Clinton is getting ragged for being too chummy with the Bushes, too, because he is co-heading relief for the victims of the hurricane.

So it seems it is actually more important for some here to get a five-minute thrill out of Clinton being rude or nasty to the Bushes than for him to get food and water for starving and dying people.

Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 02:45 PM by TheGoldenRule
Don't forget that these elected officials work FOR the people. Landrieu has voted in the past in ways that hurt the people- Bankruptcy bill and the environment-Arctic Drilling. She should be called out for that.

Now Landrieu's in the fight of her life and isn't willing to kiss ass anymore because she knows it's getting her nowhere. Well good for her! But that doesn't excuse what she did in the past.

Doing one right thing and a host of other wrong things does NOT excuse any politician (such as the Clintons) for that matter.

If we don't hold these people accountable AT ALL TIMES we may as well be watching t.v. and having a beer while the country goes to hell in a handbasket.

She said, while crying, the pres has to stop doing photo ops and really do something NOW. There is a link somewhere online where I read she said she went flew over the area where the levee was being fixed and filmed while MonkeyMan flew over and then 24 hours later she flew over again, and it appeared no work had been continued. It just stopped when the Prez flew away back to his monkey house. He got hi photo op.

Sorry, Landrieu ops! Most DUers are smart enough to see this current "performance" for what it is...a complete CYA move with the liberal base, but ONLY AFTER IT IS SAFE TO DO SO.

Leadership is saying what you believe EVEN WHEN IT IS NOT POLITICALLY SAFE.

for her people in the midst of the worst natural disaster in the nation's history, help from a man who is certainly petty and small enough to deny those he doesn't consider sufficiently respectful.

And Landrieu certainly doesn't have a "liberal base." She's from Louisiana, not Berkeley.

Posts like this one make me glad DU is not in any way representative of the Democratic Party.

96. I can understand and agree with you to a point.
But I believe she was going to try the "suck up" and "nicey nice" part first - actually refusing to see what we all do - that bunkerboy and the REPUKES are sub human with loyalty to their PARTY above their country or fellow citizens - she may have actually believed that that criminal wasn't a criminal and actually had some good in him. Many still refuse to believe he and his fellow repukes are beyond any hope or humanity like the rest of us KNOW!

So after giveing him this one final and magnanimous chance, she finally saw the writing on the wall and all the mounting evidence of their criminality all around her. NOW she is finally acting to REALITY!

I commend her for doing that.

We have to nurture and feed our ANGER!

REMEMBER KATRINA! needs to be our rallying cry - just like the "remember the alamo" or "remember pearl harbor" or "remember the maine" was in times past.

until all the survivors are out. That is the initial inclination- to work with those above you, not alienate them because you need their help. You assume, they want to rectify their mistake. Once you realize they are incompetent or worse, and people are dying and will continue to die, that's when you get mad, and she did

Louisiana Senator Threatens President Bush

September 4, 2005 11:49 a.m. EST

Douglas Maher - All Headline News Staff Reporter

Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Louisiana Democrat Sen. Mary Landrieu threatens President Bush with physical violence this morning on ABC's Sunday morning news program, "This Week".

"If one person criticizes our sheriffs, or says one more thing, including the President of the United States, he will hear from me - one more word about it after this show airs and I - I might likely have to punch him - literally," says Landrieu.

"The President came here yesterday for a photo-op, he got his photo-op but we are never going to get this fixed if he does not send us help now."

It is a felony to threaten the President of The United States with violence.

No official comment from the White House has been reported.

Prevention

Can't think of them all, but that my own philosophy... I believe in PLanning and Prevention.... That is the MAIN reason I support this party and that is what Landrieu was about.. We need to really work on this philosophy.

114. Sad but Beautiful--Reality Made Her Wake Up
This is now a life and death struggle for these victims who still, after all, have nothing, and I think this week--as it did for many people--made Landrieu realize something very grim and ugly about what the modern Republican Party has become. They really do casually murder people, then plot their next tax cut for the rich. I hope this means she has now become a real Democrat, thinking directly of the people, and not the "little club." Anybody listening to, or looking at, her, knows how traumatic this week has been. This is way beyond political disagreements, and trying to get along and not offend so you can get aid quickly--Bush and the rest of the Republican Party revealed something really ugly about themselves this week, it can't be taken back, and it should be referred to by Democrats who now know, if they didn't before, what the enemy is.

Also, about little rich boy Anderson Cooper, who got into the media by being Gloria Vanderbilt's kid: I will never forget the "report" little Andy Rich Boy did for "20/20" some years ago on employees of a supermarket chain who could not survive on their poverty-level minimum wage salaries. The "brave" Andy and ABC did not do the story on Wal-Mart or any other national chain, but chose instead a regional Southern chain I had never heard of, and Andy Pandy claimed they "could not find" a national chain that paid strictly minimum wage! A goddamned lie! Hey, Andy--want to know which chains pay poverty wages? Check a list of your SPONSORS. I am rather unimpressed with Andy "Outraged and Attacking Democrats for the Camera."
