Don't hold your breath for hearings about disaster relief fiasco.
The Repukes in Congress will fall into line under Delay and Frist. The call will be to act on what needs to be done NOW. The time for "blame and recriminations" can wait until we take care of the problems we face.
It is not the time to second guess what the war in Iraq has done to our homeland security. We need to rebuild, not have a witch hunt for the heads of FEMA and DHS.
Blah, blah, blah...
Take my word, no hearings on the incompetence that led to this.
Hey how are those hearings on the WMD intelligence failure going?

1. I have to disagree...

I think all of America is outraged (except the freepers). I think there will be people in Bush's face everyday asking about this. He is SO going to be on the defensive from here on out.

2. I think this is too big for them to be able
to just avoid it. There are too many outraged people. I do not think they can brush this under the carpet.

5. Yeah, sure
just like those outraged when the main reason for the Iraq War, WMDs was found to be a lie. Those were big hearings.

3. Unfortunately I agree with you. I lay the blame at the feet of the weak
sister, lazy ass just-want-to-get-elected-again, Democrats.

The Dems have been major no shows in this tragedy.

I saw Chuck Schumer on This Week and he was weak this week, if you get my drift.

He basically skimmed over the tragedy and mumbled....when the transcripts pop up, read them.

4. I think there will be hearings
I called my repuke Conman about this on Friday. The aide who took my call couldn't agree with me more-an unusal state of things, because usually these people just take my name and say thanks (we're usually on snarling terms). So at least the staff is outraged-and, from the tone of the fellow's voice, a little scared too. Especially when I asked if this was how the repukes were going to handle the next terrorist attack.

6. Oh,
there will be plenty of lip service, just no hearings.
Again, aren't we all outraged over the intelligence failures. How are those hearings?

7. Insurance Companies Will Demand Them
Imagine the liability nightmare this fiasco is creating. Millions of people will be trying to file billions in claims...including the large corporations and others who lost large facilities in NOLA. If there's FEMA negligence, that means the Government could be liable to cover billions that the insurance companies would have to pay out. Ya think they're gonna swallow that bullet?

Look for this regime to attempt to ram through special legislation that will exempt them from liability in this matter.

8. Congressional hearings will never happen
Behind the scenes, a power struggle emerged, as federal officials tried to wrest authority from Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco (D). Shortly before midnight Friday, the Bush administration sent her a proposed legal memorandum asking her to request a federal takeover of the evacuation of New Orleans, a source within the state's emergency operations center said Saturday.

The administration sought unified control over all local police and state National Guard units reporting to the governor. Louisiana officials rejected the request after talks throughout the night, concerned that such a move would be comparable to a federal declaration of martial law. Some officials in the state suspected a political motive behind the request. "Quite frankly, if they'd been able to pull off taking it away from the locals, they then could have blamed everything on the locals," said the source, who does not have the authority to speak publicly.
