my letter to ray nagin... |
|
i tried posting this to him via www.cityofno.com but it won't let me. i've copied it to a text file and will try again in a few days. i encourage everyone to send mr. nagin a letter of encouragement as soon as his office is able to receive them.

Dear Mr. Nagin,
I have been haunted by what's happened in New Orleans and every time I see you on television or hear you on the radio I'm struck by how composed, heartfelt and eloquent you have been. I have long been disgusted by the administration in our White House and at this point, I can't even think about Mr. Bush and the response to your city's crisis without feeling utter, pure revulsion.
I visited New Orleans for the first time this past February. It was bitterly cold and we vowed to come back when it was warmer, to hopefully see a bit more of the more loose and relaxed New Orleans. I'm so sad that we didn't make it back before Katrina. And as a photographer I'm even sadder now about the catastrophic disk failure that killed all 4 gigabytes of my photos of your beautiful city that we took while we were there.
My husband and I have donated all that we can right now to the Red Cross, and have hit up our companies to match our donations as well. I don't know what else I can do from here in North Carolina, but I can promise you this -- we will be back to visit and pour as much vacation money as we can into the economy of your city, as soon as we're allowed back.
Thank you for being an inspiration to those of us watching this disaster unfold. I am so sorry for the horror and loss that you and your citizens have been through this past week and I hope that you are able to rebuild, recover and regain the rich glory that you had before this storm.
America needs more real leaders like you, who are willing to get dirty, ignore the photo ops, get in the trenches and help people.
Best regards,

1. I saw him interviewed today and his concern for his overstretched |

police and fire fighters was obvious, as was his concern that search and rescue operations be stepped up as much as possible. A true leader (unlike Bush and his minions). :patriot:
