Will the gulf coast disaster be a turning point for conservatives
the way a lot of liberals turned right in the aftermath of 9/11? It looks like several prominant conservatives are actually asking the right questions at the moment. Whether their corporate overlords will rein them in is to be seen.

1. depends on how "human" they are
how they want to be judged by fellow man vs. how they want to be judged by God....
they'll have to decide what is more important

2. It's already happening
There are decent conservatives and they are as appalled at the needless deaths of thousands of their fellow citizens as I am. And rightfully so. No one with a scrap of human decency would even attempt to explain away the colossal failures of the last week.

9. Yet when * gets back to dealing with SCOTUS and his agenda
They'll 180 right back and start licking his boots again.

The only way you'll see "outrage" is if a disaster hits WHITE RICH America, and when that happens, they'll just look for another country to blow up as retribution.

12. We shall see.
I think that you are wrong. Unless Bush can raise those who died through his criminal negligence or depraved indifference, he will never again have a drop of moral authority among decent people. His callous actions and the incompetence of his Administration are a stain that will last through history. It's not a very appealing horse for anyone to hitch a wagon to. This incompetence caused disaster has affected the national psyche.

Bush would be best served by apologizing and resigning as soon as NO is fully evacuated. He won't because he's a sociopathic narcissist, but that's what he should do.

15. 2006 national campaign ... IMPEACH BUSH !!!

2006 Democratic challengers need to unite and make this the over-ring theme. 2006 should be transformed into a RECALL ELECTION against GW Bush for his incompetence and criminality.

The Republican Congress will NEVER investigate what went wrong. They will only cover it up. They will NOT fix the problems that led to this disaster. They will do another cover-up and whitewash like the 9-11 commission.

Democrats need to GET A SPINE or get out of the game altogether. IMPEACH BUSH IN 2006 !!!!!

If we get the house we can investigate. If we can investigate we'll have 10 times the dirt they had on Nixon. The irregardless of who controls the Senate, Bush would be forced to resign by Republican Senators who simply would not support in light of all the dirt!!!!

IMPEACH BUSH IN 2006!!!!

8. Sad, but true...
As far as the MSM is concerned: 1 dead old white man > 1 dead white girl > 1 brain-dead white girl > the turd I just flushed > 10,000 dead poor black Americans.

11. I'll correct you
Replace "1 dead old white man" with "1 dead white RICH EXECUTIVE" and you'd be spot on.

7. It looks like it might
Someone said that, paraphrasing the old saying that a conservative is a liberal who got mugged, post-Katrina, a liberal is a conservative whose house got flooded.

10. Hell no. They will become more entrenched. They will try to
convince the hidden poor and white that this would never happen to them since the victims are really to blame for their own fate and many of these poor fools will believe them.

13. For many, this will be a face-saving opportunity...
to turn against BushCo.

My theory is that a significant percentage of conservatives who supported the war agenda couldn't speak out against the administration without admitting their own mistake.

But the demonstrably incompetent, disastrous mishandling of Katrina, both in preparation and response, opens the door for these "buyer's remorse" victims to start speaking out. And that's the beginning of the end for BushCo.

My opinion, along with a dash of wishful thinking.

14. No, according to polls, most approve of the job Bush is doing
and are placing the blame at the state and local level.

These people are lost. They will never see the light.
