Labor Day weekend - a bust = GUILT & high gasoline prices |
|
Was noting last night they were saying that traffic was "very light" on the freeways and that not many were traveling on this Labor Day weekend. They gave two reasons: 1. GUILT from Katrina and 2. the high prices of gasoline.
I noted the other day that the local shitty Motel-6 (who had upped their prices to $59.99 a night) had them down to $51.99.
Tough shit losers! You reap what you sow!
People are real, they have feelings and they act on these feeling no matter what the damn media says!

2. Labor Day is more than just a last chance to char a dead animal carcass |
|
Remember when Labor Day was actually about Labor? Instead firing up the barbeque, maybe we should reflect on the struggles of people like Mother Jones, Emma Goldman, and Big Bill Haywood who gave us the 8 hour work day.

3. Well, the park on my lake is 100% full (eastern Oklahoma) |
|
however to be fair, it doesn't attract a lot of long-distance visitors...mostly from within 50 to 100 miles.

4. I live in a resort area |
|
and yesterday when I went for a walk the resort looked full. People were tossing balls around on the lawn outside their rooms, it was like a J Crew commercial. Kind of bizarre, but I suppose people just go on with their lives, especially if the devastation hasn't hit them or their families personally.

5. Not Labor Day, but guilt anyways.. |

I was scheduled to go on a cruise out of NOLA on one of the ships that has been taken by FEMA. They changed our cruise over to leaving out of a different port, but it just seems really wrong to go on a cruise while all this is going on. I've given as much money as I can afford, but I feel so powerless and angry.

I figured that if there is a shortage of fuel, who am I to waste it? There are people in real need for fuel (to run generators, evacuate and other rescue operations) Who am I to drive the price even higher by joyriding?
