Interesting press conf from St. Bernard Parish |
|
Was just listening to local press conf from state congressman that represents St. Bernard Parish. He listed many, many, many things that were being sent to him by other localities in Louisiana, Texas. He has the help of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police! When asked how they got there, he didn't know. They have 4 (four) National Guardsmen. They found 25 elderly people dead in a nursing home, they had been "bound together." I don't know what that means. They have had no looting, no riots as was previously reported. They have been doing everything themselves, working almost for a week, around the clock...they are exhausted. They have a major oil spill on their main highway, so they have to get that off now. They are going door to door looking for bodies. When asked about federal help, he chuckled. He said the feds had promised to medi-vac the wounded out when the time comes. These officials just took over and did every thing themselves. Said people are straggling out of the marsh, one by one.

1. that's what it takes.. |

People just going there, doing the job, and not taking no for an answer.
Just say, "So what are you gonna do. Shoot me?"
Bring it on!
That image of the bound dead people in the nursing home was just heartbreaking.

3. Bush rejecting foreign help. |
|
I guess the Mounties got over the border before Dubya had a chance to stop them. As an American, I'm not too proud to accept help from those who have offered it. This includes France, Russia and even Cuba. It could have made a difference, but this ideology-first administration is more concerned about looking bad than they are about saving lives.
Further, accepting help from these nations would promote better feelings of good will. Maybe help to avoid a war sometime. Even if we help other nations in chrisis, we come across as arrogant jackasses when we turn our noses up at their offers, during our own time of need.

had their act together and the NG in place, perhaps that's 25 more that would be alive today. Very sad...

I'd like to find a transcript, a link and that would help a search.
