The president struck a more somber tone than he had at times on Friday during a daylong tour of the disaster region, when he had joked at the airport in New Orleans about the fun he had had in his younger days in Houston. His demeanor on Saturday was similar to that of his most somber speeches after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

He was in a hanger with absolutely no evacuees, not even photo op ones, and just drooled on about how the red cross needs cash, send cash. Then he went on to giggle about how he used to come to NOLA a lot as a college kid. Then he flew Air Force One out of NOLA without taking anybody from NOLA with him. Disgusting.

Let's play compare and contrast.

Gore was also in NOLA yesterday, personally loading critically ill patients into a plane he chartered (and paid for) and taking them to hospitals in Tennessee. Gore would have been there days earlier, but FEMA jerked him around about getting clearance for the flight.

The displaced hurricane victims came to Tennessee on a hastily arranged flight, accompanied by doctors and carrying whatever they had in boxes, bags or, in one case, an old suitcase tied up with rope.

Former Vice President Al Gore arranged the flight and was on board, but he declined to take credit for the airlift, fearing it would be "politicized."
