DE-WATERING New Orleans??
What is is with repukelicans and the way they change our vocabulary and invent new words to fit their version of events?

Why can't the asshole say DRAIN New Orleans? What's wrong with that word?

6. They do that in my profession
It drives me nuts. They take an old idea (that probably didn't work way back when) and reintroduce it with a new name.

When I retire, I would love to write a manual translating some of these ridiculous words.

4. It's a valid technical term, in certain contexts
...like wastewater treatment. 'Dewatering' is something you do to sludge before you're able to truck it away.

In this context, it's stupid and incorrect. They're using jargon in an attempt to sound like they know what they're talking about.

5. I wondered about "de-watering"
today was the first I've ever heard that term.

8. Actually,
Dewater is a word. I think it is more commonly used in the military then in the civilian sector. For example, when the Navy talks about removing water from a ship, it's called dewatering.

Since it's the Army Corps of Engineers that will be doing the flood work in NO, it's possible the term came from them.

9. Draining the city
is somewhat suspect as well though -- since you are not draining (which usually connotates gravity and downward movement), but using pumps.

In some ways the construct de-watering seems more correct than draining.
