Less than 2000 Police Held New Orleans for 3 days

I've heard some slamming of N.O. cops on TV and even on the DU. They held that city for 3 fucking days by themselves. A city with 500,000+ residents, a shitload of tourists, at least 50,000 (that's conservative, IMO) were not evacuated before the storm hit. Now I want you to imagine being personally responsible for at least 30 people besides yourself in the midst of absolute chaos. Radios don't work, there's very little communication, a few criminals are raping, pillaging the city. You've had no sleep, probably no food and maybe a little water. You don't know where and/or how your family is doing. You're running out of ammunition to protect even yourself. No help is coming. Would you crack?

2. This has to get out there people are spreading lies & rumors....

about them. Some so called police political hacks (La State Police Head)seem to give more life to these rumors by repeating them over & over. There are lots of rumors being spread to make the New Orleans Police look like they just gave up. It amazing that people repeat I heard this I heard that all mostly coming from unnamed sources.

New Orleans PD is only a 1500 man dept. very small to deal with such a large emergency w/o backup, backup they thought was coming in immediately to help them in the form of the National guard. The majority of resuces being made in the early days was done by the police dept. until pulled off in mass to deal with the looting problem.

Its pretty clear tham damning the police dept is being politically motivated to make the Governor & Mayor look bad.


To make matters worse, the chief of the Louisiana State Police said he heard of numerous instances of New Orleans police officers _ many of whom from flooded areas _ turning in their badges.

"They indicated that they had lost everything and didn't feel that it was worth them going back to take fire from looters and losing their lives," Col. Henry Whitehorn said.
