My sis sent me this link about Red Cross and their "war fund".
Can someone tell me if this is true? http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/september2005/010905redcross.htm

Or if you have any knowledge of this? It alleges that Red Cross turned most of the money donated from 9/11 into a War Fund to help with the "war on terror", and most of it did not end up helping the people affected by 9/11. As they rake in more and more money this week for Katrina victims, I worry that the victims will not see that money.

2. for 9 11 they were caught with their hand in the cookie jar - held back
the money for other "expected" disasters. Such a stink was made they
had to give the money to the 9 11 survivors and widows.

I dont know about the war fund...but Im mighty suspicious that Bush keeps saying give to the Red Cross.

4. This is what I understood
people who donated expressely for 9/11 were surprised to learn that their donations were put into the RC general disaster fund.

I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing were happening all over again.

9. this is why everyone got upset with the actors who did the
relief funding for 911 - the one guy who organized it -
this is why some are setting up separate funds for them

John Grisham just setup a fund with 5m from himself and others can join in which will specifically go to the people

RC director gets paid like 500,000 that is obscene - the money given pays for that ridiculous salary

7. yes true
they do some upfront support - the victims have to get to them - they provide meals - as you saw they were not at the domes in NO or out in the neighborhoods where people needed water

this is why they like cash donations

having lived through a diaster area once - people whose apartment was destroyed needed to start over but because they had insurance RC would not help them in the immediate need with check for clothes or other things

so find someone who actually goes in and helps
or find specific people to help
RC has receive so much money now that will not be spent on the victims of gulf coast

there are ways to get money to people who need the help

The American Red Cross Gets Half a Billion, So Where's the Money Going?

By Mark Scaramella

November 6, 2001

Counterpunch

Over $1.2 billion has been generously donated via the various large donation programs that were set up by the big charities in the wake of the September 11 attacks on the East Coast. But is the money really going to help the victims, their families and the rescue workers?

Last week Santa Rosa-based KSRO radio talk show host and CounterPuncher Pat Thurston contacted representatives of the American Red Cross in Washington DC to discuss the controversy that's arisen about how they've handled the funds donated for the families of the victims of the September 11 east coast terrorist attacks.

Over $500 million has been pledged to the American Red Cross's "Liberty Fund" so far. Donors probably assumed that this money would go to help the victims, their families, and the rescue workers. Of course whenever there's that much money involved there must be some administration and checking to make sure programs are effective and that the claims are valid. "We assumed the money would be divided among the victims," said Thurston, "that they'd just get a check. Apparently, that's not the way it works."

..more..

10. the first two-thirds of a million pays the salary of their CEO
The CEO of the Red Cross -- which has an annual budget of $3.4 billion -- Marsha Evans, has an annual salary of over $650,000 (as of fiscal year ending 6/30/03 -- http://www.forbes.com/finance/lists/14/2004/LIR.jhtml?passListId=14&passYear=2004&passListType=Misc&datatype=Misc&uniqueId=CH0013 )

By the way, she used to be a rear admiral in the Navy, according to her bio at the Red Cross site. http://www.redcross.org/pressrelease/0,1077,0_314_1502,00.html
