Comedian's "war on poverty" joke last year at rethug dinner?
anyone remember that? he said something to the effect that they have won the war on poverty, meaning something about that the poor were still kept in their place, something like that? This was at some post-election celebration, I think?

You know, somebody asked me, 'Do you think the war on poverty is over?' I said, 'Yes, the poor lost.'

According to a Washington Post article on the inagural balls last week, that was commedian Rich Little impersonating Ronald Reagan. The Republican crowd loved it.

Here is the extended quote:

Though there was no official poem for the occasion, impressionist Rich Little, emceeing the Constitution Ball at the Hilton Washington, did provide a bit of inaugural doggerel.

The gist of it was: "Let's get together, let bitterness pass, I'll hug your elephant, you kiss my ass!" And the crowd went crazy.

Little said he missed and adored the late President Ronald Reagan and "I wish he was here tonight, but as a matter of fact he is," and he proceeded to impersonate Reagan, saying, "You know, somebody asked me, 'Do you think the war on poverty is over?' I said, 'Yes, the poor lost.' " The crowd went wild.

3. What could be funnier than the suffering of marginalized people?
Oh, those Republicans. They really know how to yuck it up.

Next time, maybe Rich Little can make fun of quadriplegics! That's a subject ripe for joking about!
