I cannot go to church today. |
|
How can I reverently pray, when beside me, there will be people who still support the president. I fear I will not be going back to church soon. How can I clasp my hands together in a prayer voiced by a voice that has helped this president get where he is today. I will not be singing in choir today. How can I when, in my own weakness, I will see the blame for this resting on the conservatives in the congregation. They will speak of compassion and assistance with Katrina's victims. They will empty their pocketbooks to help. But they will still support the leaders that made this disaster what it is. These are good people, but blind. I feel anger and cannot force it back. I pray that I can forgive them, they know not what they do.

but decided to hell with it. Bunch of freeps at the church where I occasionally go too.
I donated money to organizations that will help and that means NOT the Salvation Army.
Welcome to the DU btw! :D

I periodically reassess my decisions about my church and continue to decide that I must not go back.
I tell people I belong to the Church-with-No-Walls now. I have to be responsible for my own soul/actions, without leaning on co-dependent others.

5. I don't know anything about how churches work |
|
(that is an understatement -- I don't believe in a god or gods and, sorry, I reeeeally dislike religion)... However, is there ever an opportunity for a parishoner to speak? Maybe you could say you need to address the church and then basically say, is this the kind of country we want? Is there no room for compassion? Must money trump everything? ... Or some such thing.
I don't know, that might be a stupid idea, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

The pastor/minister/rabbi/whatever will get up in front of the congregation and tell the people what to think.
That's why most church-goers can't think for themselves. They just let someone do the thinking for them. They are sheeple and nothing more. It's very said.
