My letter to USA Today
I will probably send it to other newspapers
quote.....
America. I ask you, why are you so surprised?

If you live a middle/upper class life style it is easy to not SEE what is REALLY happening. You go to work, have a great paying job, have healthcare and educate your kids in the best US schools and return at the end of the day to your ‘gated communities’.
Welcome to the ‘other’ America,
You may not KNOW this but we have a minimum wage in this country. This ‘wage’ pays for barely the most basics of human survival. Tens of million of our citizens live paycheck to paycheck. There is no money to SAVE for a luxury like a car that will transport you out of a ‘war zone’ when you are given 2 days notice to evacuate. Even if the could get a ride out of town, where would they go? They have no money for a hotel, food, diapers for their child or any medication they might need.
Time has come to address the issues that face the ‘other’ America. We need to raise ‘minimum wage’ to a livable wage. We need healthcare for 45 millions of our citizens. We need job training to bring the ‘left behind’ into the 21st century
After the rolling blackout of 2003, Congress said it would take over a $ trillion to improve our roads, hwys, grids, tunnels and waterways. http://www.asce.org/reportcard/2005/page.cfm?id=145 This would create millions of good paying jobs and bring our Country and it’s infrastructure into the 21st century. If we do not lobby our leadership to fund this legislation, I promise you this will not be the last disaster our country will see.
This administration convinced 100 million people that we would be safer if we attacked Iraq. Are we? We are approaching a cost of $300 BILLION and no end in sight. We have a home and it is called the United States of America and it needs our help. Keep neglecting it and it’s citizens and loss with be immeasurable. Unfortunately, half the country thinks of spending money as a waste vs. an investment in all of our futures and generations to come. You can only turn away so long before even you are embarrassed.
