Dennis K. said this on the floor...
WASHINGTON - September 2 - Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) gave the following speech today on the House floor during a special session to provide relief money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina:

“This amount of money is only a fraction of what is needed and everyone here knows it. Let it go forward quickly with heart-felt thanks to those who are helping to save lives with necessary food, water, shelter, medical care and security. Congress must also demand accountability with the appropriations. Because until there are basic changes in the direction of this government, this tragedy will multiply to apocalyptic proportions.

“The Administration yesterday said that no one anticipated the breach of the levees. Did the Administration not see or care about the 2001 FEMA warning about the risk of a devastating hurricane hitting the people of New Orleans? Did it not know or care that civil and army engineers were warning for years about the consequences of failure to strengthen the flood control system? Was it aware or did it care that the very same Administration which decries the plight of the people today, cut from the budget tens of millions needed for Gulf-area flood control projects?

“Countless lives have been lost throughout the South with a cost of hundreds of billions in ruined homes, businesses, and the destruction of an entire physical and social infrastructure.

18. Yes.
A really hard question then, huh? "Support the Troops" has gotten them whatever they want up to now, but "Support the Citizens" will be a loud cry that should give pause.

This was posted just an hour ago? It dropped like a stone with only 2 or 3 responses. Keep it up there if you can. HE spoke out when so far many have been silent.

6. God love Dennis. I hope he forms a coalition to push for
impeachment of the whole administration. I think this should keep Bushie busy until he is removed from office. That way he won't have time to start appointing neo-con judges to the Supreme Court.

9. Dennis K, REAL DEMOCRAT.
I love him and Conyers and the CBC and the members of congress who stand for truth (including Cong. "Freedom Fries" who switched on the Iraq War). And I love our activists and party regulars. They speak from conviction, knowledge, and, in this case, appropriately, passion.

I do find the 'leet DEMS a but to coiffed, to distant, to damn late!

10. Where are our shithead Democrats AGAIN??
God bless Dennis and God bless the Black Caucus (again the only people who said anything in 2000 when this country was stripped of it's basic democratic functions). But I am so damn ripped. Where are our bunch of losers again on this one?? Why are they silent when this is very much the neglect of the poor and the minorities. It's because they don't give a rat's ass nor do they ever intend to do differently if they were in power. Those people weren't just "let down by their government" as even our (gasp) media keep saying; they were let down by the jerks who are suppose to be the opposition party. As usual, it's only those "lunatic fringe" liberals of the Dem Party that speak out. The rest wouldn't want to even remotely sound like those people, would they???? I can now see that whatever of ours crawls out from under their rock and runs in '08, it's a choice between the repub nominee and another corporate-owned millionaire. This country is a joke. My god, when you even have people like Joe Scarborough and Tucker Carlson pissing on the Bush administration and we hear the deafening sounds of silence again...........

12. A pledge by DK's webmaster, Turo Dexter
Dr. Martin Luther King., Jr. said: "One day we must come to see that peace is not merely a distant goal we seek, but that it is a means by which we arrive at that goal. We must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means." (1967, A Christmas Sermon. More quotes)

I now renew this pledge, and I invite you to join me.

1. I will not waver in my resolve to speak out against injustice and untruth, but I will make an equal commitment to reveal, demonstrate and speak for justice and truth.
2. I will take responsibility for communicating the truth in a way that people can hear and understand.
3. I will not personally attack those with whom I disagree, for much of the time they merely have not yet learned the truth.
4. I will introduce positive alternatives that bring people together, facilitate healing and create peace.
5. When I am moved to speak against something, if I can, I will look for ways also to speak for - and create - something more powerful and good, a light that through its own brightness will help to dispel the darkness.

May all who struggle in these difficult times prevail. As we reach out to others in need, may we also find the strength to give ourselves what we need. Let us clear the way. Peace starts in each of us.

22. Face it, moron* pissed away this countries future in Iraq...
Any real money that NO requires has been pissed away on that folly in Iraq.

So now he* give this meager sum of 11 billion. Damn, 11 billion will barely cover the reconstruction of the side walks. We are now witnessing how moron* takes control of a situation, everything on the cheap. 9/11, his* war, and now this. Scraping the budgets clean and to the minimum for the people so he can award his oil buddies with bigger contracts they can profit off of. Remember, before all the bodies of the dead were counted, chaney and his asshole idiots had already awarded yet another cash cow reconstruction contract to Halliburton. God damn, people, I mean what the fuck???? here we go again, Iraq in America.

NO will never be the same, not because of the will of the good people of NO but because moron* is selling them down the river.

My heart breaks for the future that is coming.
