nola proves: geoge bush cannot protect us
it's all fine and dandy to get your dander up and go huntin' terrists. people like this, but not so much out of a quest for vengeance itself, but rather, because it makes us feel more protected. we'd like to think that if violence against us is punished forcefully, then no one will be violent against us.

well, new orleans proves that shrubbie can't protect us. his tax cuts didn't make the levees more secure. the private sector didn't step in and reinforce those levees. the government didn't get food and water and shelter quickly to those in need. a national guard deployed in iraq proved to be of little value in restoring order to new orleans. and a series of self-serving photo-ops have done nothing to comfort those in need of the basic elements of survival.

and the speaker of the house calling to NOT rebuild new orleans is the ultimate disgrace. this is surrender. can you imagine if this had been a terrorist attack and the banana republican leadership had been calling to NOT rebuild? can you imagine if the banana republican leadership had called for a complete evacuation of manhattan after 9/11 and to never rebuild it?

geoge bush has generally only had ONE thing holding his slim popularity together: the sense of security that warmongering provides. well, this just shot a major hole in that theory. we need to press this point.

bush cannot make us feel safe. and without that sense of safety, bush has nothing.

NOTHING.

3. of course, but the IMAGE is of someone trying to make you safe
his is the style of the classic abusive husband. make out like the world is vastly scarier than it actually is, and credit yourself with being the only one who could possibly keep you safe.

hence, spend years and trillion on one single incident that killed 3,000 people; meanwhile, many more die all the time, usually far less sensationally, because of infrastructure neglect, and occassionally, something collapses, as the levees in nola.

2. This was the basis of his whole campaign last year
and the majority of Americans (if we are to believe he actually won) were duped big time. My Repub husband finally gets this. I told him I wished the election was this year instead of last so the public could vote knowing the REAL Bush. He said that the public won't forget this. God, I hope that is true. We need Democratic leadership.
