do black people feel betrayed by Condoleeze (aka Imelda) and Colin? |
|
I know I sure would...
Those two sicken me. Did their ancestors not fight against slavery and discrimination?
Why do they allow themselves to be used? They're serving masters again and I'm repulsed that they've let themselves be used as the token black entertainers for the grand master puppeteer's "theater"...
Just sickens me, those two. Condi's a disgrace to my gender and her race, and Colin's a disgrace to his race.

I'd be nervous if I were her. I wonder how she and Colin sleep at night. Disgraceful...

Those people do not seem to me to represent the views of people in the black comminity - at least not where I grew up.

So I personally don't think it is possible for her to betray African-Americans like me. She is just an incompetent embarrassment to herself.
Sec. Powell, however is a true disappointment.
I admired him when he was Chair of Joint Chiefs. He lost that admiration slowly, finally culminating when he got in front of the UN and did that dog and pony show preceding the Iraq invasion.

My feelings exactly.
As an African American they both disappoint.
They are nothing to be proud of IMO.

26. I always like Powell, too, up until he lied like a rug for fake WMDs. |
|
Then I knew he had truly gone over to the Dark Side. Condoleeza, on the other hand, I have always hated as a traitor to the whole human race.

5. Remember when Harry Belefonte criticized them for |
|
their loyalty to the white man's party at the expense of their own people? Remember how he was criticized?
I have seen it before where members of a minority gain acceptance in the company of affluent, white people and they refuse to socialize with their own people any more or to even admit that they aren't the same ethnicity. They start thinking they are white.

She sounds completely insane defending shrub under these circumstances. Even more so than usual.

I didn't know Harry Belafonte said this. Thank you for posting about it. I like knowing things like this--I can go research and see if I can find the comments somewhere on the net.

I've never quite figured her out. Even before she became "Imelda Rice," I thought she tried really hard to distance herself from her heritage and race. In other words, she's the black girl who educated herself (bootstraps theory, I suppose), worked hard, and became an "American Success Story" contender. There seems to be some belief on her part that she's somehow above it all -- that she may be black, but she's "better" (smarter, more industrious, more accomplished) than all those other black folks who just can't seem to get it together. For all that, she's still just a BAP (Black American Princess) on steroids.
Ferragamos? Manolo Blanicks? (sp) Slingbacks? Pumps? High heels or flats?
Frankly, I hate the bitch.
On edit/
As far as Colin Powell -- well, he seems to be trying really hard to escape that stigma of "lazy stupid unmotivated capricious got your hand out for government money" stereotype that Republicans like to foment. I remember when they were trying to get him to run for president -- (as if THAT base would vote for him). I knew then he would only be a "yes" man. The only reason he didn't run is because he KNEW, and that his wife was going to be excoriated by the press.
And you didn't ask about him, but don't GET me started on Clarence Thomas . . .

16. No denying that she is black |
|
In my eyes she is a disgrace to my race and a danger to the human race. I used to get so much slack for criticizing her from other black people. For some reason because she is a success story and black I'm suppose to excuse the crap she has done to this country. People had the nerve to call me racist! Damn, I'm not racist against my own race and just because a person happens to be the same race as me doesn't mean that get a pass for amoral behavior.
As for Colin, well he gets no pass for me either. He was in the front lines when this war started and he played along. He is just as much to blame and yes he is a disgrace. Both of them are, for being in the same company with an administration that would deny black people the right to vote. They should feel ashamed but you can tell they don't.

They've "made" it -- they've busted past the race barrier and landed on top of the heap. For whatever cost they had to pay. And now, what's a few thousand dead black bodies? You can't turn them into leather and make a pair of shoes out of them, and they don't look good in front of the camera. What use are they?
Fucking assholes.

It's as if it is evil somehow to consider someone that has 'made it.' I think that's a bunch of crap.
The success stories are still human, and still accountable as human beings. I don't care how successful they are.
I've seen the same kind of backlash for people that dare to criticize Oprah...

22. As an African-American, my response... |
|
Do I feel betrayed by Colin and Condoleeza? No, because I knew what kind of cloth they were cut from, and so I never expected much from them to begin with.
I think betrayal only comes, when you expected a certain thing from someone, and they didn't deliver.
In this case, I didn't expect them to deliver, so therefore no sense of betrayal.
Now having said that, I do think that they are both a disgrace to my community. I believe that as an African-American, when you rise to a certain position of authority or leadership, you have an obligation to help lift other African-Americans up, and help make Black America better. They have not done that.

28. I knew this kid back in the 6th Grade, in the "smart class." |
|
He was Black, very smart, eloquent, well read, etc. from a working class background. But he was Republican, against Hubert Humphrey at the time. When I asked him why, because after all, he was Black and should identify more with the ideals of the Democratic party, (at least in the 20th cent.), he was really insulted. Not sure why exactly, but I think he thought it was racist or condescending of me to assume that he would not want to be a Republican because he was African-American. And keep in mind this was not the South and we weren't talking about George Wallace!
Now this kid was destined to become a Harvard lawyer or something, but I'm not sure what happened to him. But it shows that even then, this feeling existed among some Blacks. Was he trying to distance himself from his own people, or just trying to be a success?
I can see the same sort of attitude in Condi and Colin.
Maybe in 100 years or so, none of this will matter, if the human race survives that long.
