WWL Baton Rouge reporting from live ACoE press conference |
|
Contractors working 17th Street canal breach were fired at, not shot. Didn't hear more, like who or why.
On the water being pumped out, ACoE was asked "Isn't the water flowing out a threat to the environment, marine life?" He replied, "No, ma'am."
Well! Clearly the ACoE have things under total control. :sarcasm:

2. More...contractors were fired upon, but no one was injured. |
|
Asked Bad on morale? No, since these contractors have been in Iraq. (A follow up says NOPD did indeed shoot gunmen.)
Setting up pumps every night. NOLA East, 24 pumps are repaired. Water is being pumped from canals into Lake Ponchatrain.
Their schedule is to de-water pumping station 6 (at the end of 17th street canal) so they can assess damage. Pumping station 6 is largest pumping station in city.
Logistics are a nightmare but they are very close to repairing breach at 17th street canal. Will be complete tonight. They can then begin assessing damage of pumping station 6.
There was a rumor that a barge broke loose and caused the breach of the 17th street canal. Denied.
After all pumps are repaired, 80 days max worst case to de-water city.
Mike Rogers with ACoE speaking.
