BUSH ORDERS FLAG LOWERED FOR REHNQUIST: Nada for NO

The U.S. flag flies at half staff at the White House in Washington, D.C. September 4, 2005. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court William Rehnquist, a conservative force on the Supreme Court for over 30 years, died on Saturday after battling thyroid cancer since October, a court spokeswoman said. As chief justice, Rehnquist pushed the closely divided nine-member court to the right, and President George W. Bush was expected to use the opening to continue his own drive to add conservative voices to the judiciary. Reuters/Mannie Garcia

No such gesture, no national mourning for the 15,000 poor and people of color who drowned in New Orleans. After all...you win some, you lose some, right, "W"?

44. now there's some fuzzy math.
Solve the following equation and inequality:

Thousands of Iraqis < "Freedom"

Invading a country to steal its oil = $X (solve for variable--hint, answer will be in billions)

I'm sure someone less tired could come up with more. v_V

It's premature to lower for the Gulf Coast victims. Flag protocol and all that. We can wait and do it correctly at the right time.

(People died all over, not just in N.O., BTW.)

15. excuse me. Don't defend him.
The flag protocol states times of national tragedy. And it was lowered the day of the Columbine shootings too.

It is a national symbol of mourning and does not require a body count.

41. I heard that this morning and was shocked it hadn't already been
lowered because of the tragedy.

We don't lower it for thousands of deaths and the destruction of multiple towns and a major American city but we do for the death of one elderly sick man, who had an important job.

The dichotomy was just striking.

*The flag will be flown at half-staff at public buildings, military facilities, and embassies until Sept. 20 for the disaster victims
