Will the LA survivors get more compensation than the 9/11 survivors?
I'm not talking about just the negligent response from FEMA to help evacuate them from NOLA, but about the slow response afterwards which has been the cause of so many people, drowning or dying of hunger or dehydration. Some were held at gunpoint in shelters; other just left to die.

Wouldn't this qualify for a civil remedy?

2. damages are capped. if they do a STFU fund like 911,
payments would be based on ones income.

911: if you made 500K/yr and were single, you (okay your parents or spouse)got a bigass payout. If you made 30K & had 12 kids, you got an exponentially smaller payout.

Probably Bush will offer a carton of cigs & some Boones Farm & hope it all blows over.

3. The 9/11 aid distribution was a mess
I have no doubt this will be any different. In all likelyhood it will be even more improperly distributed, with the rich making off with a lot, while the poor get a few pennies.

4. Wouldn't even go that far
Most they'll probably get is a bus pass and a job application and told to get lost.

Eventually CNN's Paula Zahn, Carol Costello, Carol Lin or Tony Snow will throw up their hands and say "we TRIED to help THOSE people..."

Y'know...THOSE people who are "useless eaters..."

Crackheads. Gangbangers. Fat welfare moms...

If I had a rocket launcher...

6. Nope.
There're far more Louisianna survivors and relatives to compensate, and they're largely poor and black, so bush only gives as much of a shit as he can use politically.

7. This has been my question from day one!

Thank you. I've wondered aloud about possible $1-million dollar payouts for the survivors, based upon our 9-11 experience. And, you know what, my audience has just laughed dismissively and waved me off like I'm an idiot. So am I?

What's fair is fair, isn't it?

Why is a New York investment banker's life worth more than a New Orleans' jazz musician's? Can anybody help me?

(Edit) And, I'm going to add, from my standpoint, the world has gained much more from the jazz musicians than the investment bankers!

8. Not a chance in hell.
The 9/11 compensation was a buy-off to stop 9/11 survivors and the families of the dead from suing the airlines, plain and simple. They had to sign papers to the effect that they gave up their rights to sue.

Don't hold your breath waiting for any civil remedy for these survivors.
