The "Ignore It, and It Will Go Away" President`
Remember that well meant but completely incorrect thing the grownups used to tell you when the playground bully was picking on you?

"Ignore him, and he will go away."

It didn't really work very often. Sometimes if you were just being taunted by people half-heartedly, this would work. If the bully wasn't particularly persistent or strong, it would work.

But then again, there were those bullies who just didn't give up, no matter how you ignored them. In fact, they escalated the more you tried to pretend that they weren't hitting/spitting/kicking.

Well, Bush has done the same thing - he's tried to ignore everything that might be detrimental to him, in hopes that it would go away.

Huge protests over the miserable four and a half years you've been in office? Huge numbers of people turning out to voice their opinions? Ignore them, and they'll go away.

People wake up to the fact that you fed them a pack of lies about weapons of mass destruction and start asking questions? Your approval rating is falling like a stone? Ignore all that, it will go away.

Downing Street Minutes? Ignore them, and they'll go away. John Conyers walked up to your front gate and wanted to ask some questions and deliver some petitions? Ignore them, and they'll go away.

Evidence mounts that Karl Rove revealed the identity of a CIA operative, thus committing treason? Ignore it, and it will go away.
People start asking real questions and signing petitions wanting to know just what the hell is being covered up and what is going on? Ignore them, they will go away.

Cindy Sheehan decides she is going to draw attention to your illegal war and the service people who are paying the ultimate price for nothing of substance but your pride and narcissism? Ignore her, and she'll go away. She gets joined by thousands of people and gets lots of press coverage and it doesnt' make you look good? Ignore it all, and it will go away.

Now, sheer indifference and lack of response and callous negligence has caused a man-made disaster to follow the worst natural disaster in modern American history, possibly tens of thousands are dead. How many of them are unnecessarily dead while George Bush partied on during his vacation, we will probably never know. People perishing for want of necessities that could have very easily been brought to them by the Greatest Nation On Earth, if only the man in charge had said the word.

It's really hard to ignore thousands of dead and rotting corpses. The stink of them will not go away.

Outrage over what has happened on the Gulf Coast is going to have to become that bully that simply will not go away when he is ignored. That outrage and anger and fury must pound away at this corrupt administration until they can no longer play their little game of "ignore it, dear, and it will go away".
