Worker in NO says medical needs are "overwhelming" them
This will make your blood boil..apparently the people still in NO, even the shelter evacuees have been taken to a safe area, don't have 24 hr medical care..a worker on the police scanner is begging for medical attention.. is told the medical people HAVE LEFT FOR THE DAY:

"Diabetes, uncontrolled hypertension, we are overwhelmed. Serious medical crisis"

Guy is pleading to get refugees medical help "We have a serious situation"

Is told "Medical people gone for the day"

Airport area where there was care was being given has been closed and the guy was told to take the refugees to I-10 and Causeway but there is nothing there! Airport has stopped taking people in, turned them away. Massive confusion on where to send the refugees for care.

WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE MEDICAL MILITARY PEOPLE??????????????

Have they not figured out this rescue is NOT a 9-5 job??

1. FEMA has denied us help.
I guess they want us to die a slow, agonising death.

5. On another board I peruse
there are at least 2 members who are on their hospital disaster teams. they have been packed up & waiting FOR DAYS to get the call to go. they have been told they aren't needed & that FEMA is in charge of all the medical response needs.

6. American Military Personnel faithfully follow orders.
Ain't discipline grand?

"Individuals have international duties which transcend the national obligations of obedience…therefore have the duty to violate domestic laws to prevent crimes against peace and humanity from occurring." -Nuremberg Tribunal, 1950

7. There is NO ONE in command, NO ONE
Everyone is a chief giving contradictory orders, there is absolutely no organization there.

Does ANYONE get a sense that there is someone, anyone in command? I sure as hell don't!

11. Judging by the scanner stuff
There is no one in charge...it's usually at night when the confusion sets in, left and right hands don't know what are going on.

BUT..they have the refineries guarded. I think it is FEMA that has their office in the Exxon refinery per what I heard today.

Someone said to the FEMA guy today: Hey there is this guy here who just said that the President has declared martial law and that you guys have taken over the refineries, but I told him that it's just that your office is there..oh, and that you have taken over any prisoners, too. Can you confirm anything he is saying?'

Long, long, long pause. Then "yeah, our office is here".

16. "Serious medical concerns"
From NO scanner--FEMA audio:

"Grave issues...lots of sick people". "High priority right now"

"You want a representive on the radio, I'll go get them now, hold on"
-----------------------------
"Need Physician assistant visit ASAP. 1 case of Immodium"

"Med team assembled in morning, do you want on call doctor to call you tonight, or at 7:30 or 8 am in morning."

"Tonight".
-----------------------
"Potential diseases. Airborne pathogens, Hardest hit areas d/t chemicals."

"Sick, dead, dying animals"

Asking for large containers to move these animals
----------------------
person named Monique:
"We will get our environmental specialist on the phone to address your concerns, that way we can send what you need and prophylactic
medicines you need."

Guy that she is talking to:
"Everything that was in the book and what we predicted and then some is happening."

15. USN has 6 operating rooms and a 600 bed hospital offshore
unused as far as anyone knows on the USS Bataan. This is deliberate neglect and genocide of the NOLA people.

Link soon.

19. Military is not doing shit for them..and it's been how many days??
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 11:09 PM by rainbow4321
Looks like the military is giving them very little support...there is not even a doc or medical hospital set up at this parish.

From the scanner tonight..this is the parish shelter official talking to who is a Dept of Health and Hospital operator. The parish shelter official is the one who had to all but beg for medical assistance.

Request military hospital at this location...

How many people are you treating?
2,000. Expect to reach more in St Bernards once water goes down

Things St Bernard offical are requesting:
Military medical response team, medical hospital set up
4 mosquito abatement teams ground and air
-Vet response team: dogs running wild, attacking, sick, aggressive dogs
CDC support for disease control assistance for disease outbreak
(epidemiolgy support wanted)
Urgent need for tetanus, gammoglobulin shots, yellow fever

The parish already has 2 paramedics, 2 nurses, but no MD.
Ambulance needed, smooth transition to give relief to people who have been doing this for a week now.

Dept of Health and Hospitals operator:
"I'll talk to the feds, tell them what we need and see how fast we can get it."
