Help with Propaganda Spreader on another board
She's spouting the Repug message that it's solely the NOLA governor's fault for not requesting assistance sooner. She says that Bush isn't to blame in any of this.

Can I get some quick links to facts, reports, etc? They messed up in Mississippi & Alabama as well - the only early relief they saw was from the Red Cross & Local/citizen groups.

3. Show her the website
for the Department of Homeland Security.

http://www.dhs.gov/dhspublic/theme_home2.jsp

"In the event of a terrorist attack, natural disaster or other large-scale emergency, the Department of Homeland Security will assume primary responsibility on March 1st for ensuring that emergency response professionals are prepared for any situation. This will entail providing a coordinated, comprehensive federal response to any large-scale crisis and mounting a swift and effective recovery effort. The new Department will also prioritize the important issue of citizen preparedness. Educating America's families on how best to prepare their homes for a disaster and tips for citizens on how to respond in a crisis will be given special attention at DHS."

8. Once Bush issued a State of Emergency on Sunday before the storm
then the National Emergency Plan went into effect. From there on out the Dept of Homeland Security/FEMA were in charge. The governor didn't have to ask for anything after that.

Representing FEMA, Michael D. Brown, Under Secretary for Emergency Preparedness and Response, Department of Homeland Security, named William Lokey as the Federal Coordinating Officer for Federal recovery operations in the affected area.

21. I've been fighting some of the same talking points.
It's the mayors/governors fault.
They didn't ask for help.

Melissa obviously has an agenda--ENOUGH!!

Melissas post are so full or errors and extreme "left wing" leaning that are so erronious. Melissa needs to check every source and NOT just what is made up and which she wishes to believe. Did she hear how the Mayor of NO let over 100 people that were staying in the Hilton (where he was operating) leave the hotel and get to the front of the line when the buses came? In front of all those poor people who had endured so much! Or how the governor didn't ask for help until AFTER this all hit? Check out everything, not just what suits your agenda. Louisiana and New Orleans, especially have a very long history of much corruption. That shouldn't be hard to research. Just be fair. Don't mean to start anything but I cannot handle misinformation!

And another:

Too Bad. . .

. . .that the part of the levee that failed was an upgraded portion that Loisiana officials said was all they needed, and that President Clinton pulled the plug on all federal funding of Army Corp of Engineering on the levees in the late 90's. I surprised that your time line did not blame Bush for the Black Plauge. Why was there a mandatory evacuation of New Orleans? Because the President called the good mayor and told him that he had to make it mandatory. The mayor and governor looked like deer caught the headlights as the storm approached.
