Dr. John (quoted in the strib): Nothing left for the people
Nothing left for the people

At a performance at the Dakota Bar and Grill on Wednesday night, Dr. John dedicated a song to "all the politicians who have raped my home state of Louisiana." He continued: "Had they left those wetlands in the Gulf the way they was, most of this wouldn't have happened. It's what happens when everybody's pocketing the money and not leaving nothing for the people."

2. Glad to see we didn't lose Dr John in this mess
Now he needs to go work some voodoo and get his city back from these bastards.

Walk on gilded splinters...

But not everybody was so happy. The New Orleans blues-funk keyboardist Dr. John gave a big crowd at the Campus Martius stage a piece of his mind about the way Hurricane Katrina relief has been handled. In the middle of one song, he launched into a sort of accompanied polemic in which he declared (in plain-spoken terms) that he was upset with the politicians. "Nawlins didn't die a natural death," he intoned. "It was cold-blooded murder."

Many in the audience responded with empathic applause. When Dr. John finished his song, he told his listeners he had a penchant for being "politically uncorrect."

9. as an aside . . . there's song by David Bromberg called . . .
"Don't Put That Thing On Me" which, during the break, contains one of the prettiest little piano riffs I've ever heard . . . I never tire of listening to it . . . the pianist is, of course, Dr. John . . .

also, I saw the good doctor in New Orleans during Mardi Gras in the early 70s . . . he did a full show with the Meters at a large municipal auditorium, I think in Meterie . . . in full Dr. John regalia . . . great show, great time, great artist . . . :)
