The port is the biggest port in the US. Much depends on the smooth operation of that port. The people who lived around New Orleans made that port work. Now they are homeless. The port will soon become operational, but where are the people who work there going to live?
By allowing the housing for Port of New Orleans' workers to be destroyed, they effectively closed down the port for a long time.
By denying the funds to keep the levee intact the government will end up causing the port to be disfunctional for many years, costing the whole US billions of dollars.
Another miserable failure.

Besides oil it handled our exports and imports so farmers will be hurt because their produce is going nowhere and the imports like coffee stalled so the price of that commidity will go sky high
By taking out the Port of NO this country has been hit hard
