Katrina: We have a national Offense, but we have no national Defense.
We have a national Offense, but clearly no national Defense.

This is my take on New Orleans, and the Gulf Coast, in light of Iraq.

Obviously, Bush made all of this much worse, but the problem goes well beyond Bush. When I've expressed the above thought without necessarily being partisan, even Republicans are forced to do a double take and agree, because it is OBVIOUS that we have no national/federal DEFENSE. The Defense Dept is the Offense Dept.

We can do a thousand sorties for bombs in a very short time period, but not for humanitarian payloads.

In order to afford military adventurism, we have to give up our most basic security, throwing it to the winds.

2. there's a live wire jumping around in american politics right now
did you see the special Meet the Press where the President of Jefferson Parish spoke incredibly emotionally about a death very close to him.... and Tim Russert let him say what he would say and handled it with unruffled feathers, but his unemotional response was really cold, in a way. It was hard to watch, very hard to watch the president of Jefferson parish crying through his words, but just cutting away to point out the emotionalism and give him a chance to "get himself together" and then never getting back to him is just cold.
Problem is this is real, and tv can't handle any real reality.

3. Is it true that flags are half mast for Rehnquist but not the Gulf Coast?
