Bush's trip to the disaster area helped stem the collapse of his numbers for a day, but ultimately, people have realized the president's utter lack of leadership and effectiveness on the issue. Nominating horse lawyers to run FEMA, taking a week to send down the guard, playing a guitar and eating cake with McCain while the Gulf Coast drowned ... those aren't the sorts of things you can overcome with photo ops.

September 4, 2005--Just 28% of Americans give say that the federal government has done a good or an excellent job responding to Hurricane Katrina. Another 25% say the government has done a fair job while 45% say poor.

3. Only 55% disapprove??

I'm sorry, but for these many days out and the constant bashing he's getting and only 55% disapprove. Basically you have 38% approving and like 7% who apparently don't know whether they do or not. So, again we are back to the usual, split country where some independents swinging in the breeze make the difference. It's just like during the campaign season. There should be 75%-plus disapproval. So actually, the poll disturbs me...alot.
