They have managed to deflect responsibility and accountability for the most heinous of crimes. How do they do it? How DO they do it?
1) Echo chamber - "don't politicize", "don't blame", "local level" responsibility...are phrases I've heard from more mouths than I care to count this week. Are these people psychic? No. Daily Show viewers have seen Jon Stewart's montages of this phenomenon more than once. It's a concerted messaging effort that is very effective.
2) Focus on an enemy and not the situation at hand - Once someone actually blames them (ie. Nagin) then villify him. Tear him down.
3) Generalize -- Never mention Bush's name when talking about damning issues - news readers ask questions like "who IS responsible?". :eyes:
4) Deflect blame - The problem comes from the "state, federal and local levels" say Russert, Couric, and all other shills.
5) Create chaos - Allow looting in Iraq while Halliburton moves in. Let looting and rapes occur in NOLA, and let prisoners run free to justify pushing through a predetermined agenda: militarization on domestic soil.
Oh yeah, and while chaos reigns, stick in a few more freebies: repeal gas mix laws in favor the oil companies. Establish (?) posse comatatus (sp??) to strengthen and enrich the military industrial complex.
6) Count on stupidity.
Any more?

5. "Unprecedented" "Historic" |

They use these words over and over and over again to the point of nausea. They now have become trite and formulalic. These important words have lost all meaning with this administration.

6. That reminds me of another tactic: they start counting--using timelines |
|
now they are going back 30 years, stopping to blame Clinton and then saying that even if Bush had funded the levee project it wouldn't have been complete in time for Katrina. That covers all the bases doesn't it?
