I once heard Les Brown speak about the equalizing effect of having cancer. He said he had to strip down into the standard hospital garb along with other men, and he was no longer a distinguised speaker, but a cancer victim.

I shudder to think how I might have looked had I been forced to flee my home with just the clothes on my back. I shudder to think how I would have looked days later without makeup, a comb...etc.

Many of the people in NO were just like me, employed, decent and educated. But when catastrophe strikes, everybody is the same.
