I got a response on the board from the proganda hostess of the hour... (Try not to laugh too hard) Here's how it went down:

LOL - I was told on a parenting board that I couldn't post to political threads anymore, because I was Moderator that was too passionite - and I upset members... They were a bunch of fundy repugs. Everytime I posted facts, they threw huge fits - threw their hands up, and said that it didn't change their mind - or that they didn't care. Afterward they would complain to the board admin about me - ROFL. Darn those pesky facts!

We have had a lot of questions as to why our message boards are now private. They didn't start out that way. Anyone could read the message boards and anyone was welcome to join. That all changed when another site launched a viscous attack on the RMM boards. This attack was coordinated from a very liberal "mom" site. Since this is a family friendly site, we will not provide you with a link to this other site. This other site is full of profanity and even contains pornographic smileys. It is not a site you would want to open with children looking over your shoulder.

The people at this other site frequently go on what they call "field trips" with the sole purpose of attacking other sites. Our site was attacked because it was a conservative moms site. Funny how those that claim to be the most tolerant of all end up being the least tolerant. How was a very small conservative website that didn't even know their site existed and couldn't careless if they did be worthy of an attack by a rather large liberal site? Evidently, just the fact that we were having nice pleasant conversations about conservative issues was enough to cause the attack.

Apparently, the people at this site were alerted to the existence of our site by posters there that are also posters on a third site frequented by members of both our site and this other site. This field trip of theirs was documented in a thread on their message board. We were alerted to this attack by members of our board and had no prior knowledge of the existence of the other site.

Members of this other site posted hateful messages, created profane user ids and tried to crash the site. We do have a record of the IP addresses online at the time of the attack and banned them from access to the message boards. We then made all the boards private and prevented anyone from creating a new account.

Posts from our board were ridiculed and our members were mocked on the other site. Due to this, it was decided the best way to protect our members from these vile individuals was to make the board private and not to add any new members for a while. It is unknown at this time whether or not any new members will ever be allowed to join. In any case, the boards will remain private.

I tend to stick mostly over in the News forum. My DH turned me on to DU a couple of years ago (god I love that bleeding heart liberal) :)
