NEW YORK - Novelist Anne Rice harshly criticized the response to Hurricane Katrina's aftermath in her old hometown of New Orleans.
"Why did America ask a city cherished by millions and excoriated by some, but ignored by no one, to fight for its own life for so long? That's my question," Rice wrote in a New York Times op-ed piece published Sunday.
<snip>
"You want our Jazz Fest, you want our Mardi Gras, you want our cooking and our music," she continued. "Then when you saw us in real trouble, when you saw a tiny minority preying on the weak among us, you called us 'Sin City,' and turned your backs."

This report is based on an Op-Ed piece Anne Rice has written for the New York Times. This link will require a log-in:

1. I read this at WWLTV last night.
I didn't know it was written for the New York Times. That's good. Bigger circulation. She also talked about why the poor could not afford to evacuate.

3. Anyone who's ever read her stuff
could have seen that op-ed piece coming.

Tough talk we desperately need.

she speaks the truth. Having been through a lot of turmoil in her personal life, she has a lot of compassion for those less fortunate.
