White House Enacts a Plan to Ease Political Damage
By ADAM NAGOURNEY and ANNE E. KORNBLUT

WASHINGTON, Sept. 4 - Under the command of President Bush's two senior political advisers, the White House rolled out a plan this weekend to contain the political damage from the administration's response to Hurricane Katrina.

It orchestrated visits by cabinet members to the region, leading up to an extraordinary return visit by Mr. Bush planned for Monday, directed administration officials not to respond to attacks from Democrats on the relief efforts, and sought to move the blame for the slow response to Louisiana state officials, according to Republicans familiar with the White House plan.

The effort is being directed by Mr. Bush's chief political adviser, Karl Rove, and his communications director, Dan Bartlett. It began late last week after Congressional Republicans called White House officials to register alarm about what they saw as a feeble response by Mr. Bush to the hurricane, according to Republican Congressional aides.

Thank goodness the NYTimes put this picture on the front page so people can see the reality of what is happening in that region:

1. How can Rove possibly spin this one???
seriously, there are no terrorist boogiemen to blame it on, blaming the local govt is an excuse only the batshit crazy bots who would support Bush if he started reading Rusdie's "The Satanic Verses" during press conferences, I mean seriously there is no weaseling outta this one boys and girls.

5. Why doesn't Rove use his brilliance to get those people out instead
of using it for cynical manipulation and CYA?

11. The stupidest, most amoral and most hopeless drunk can do
what Rove does. He manipulates and lies. He avoids responsibility.

Rove ain't all he's cracked up to be.

The reason Rove doesn't do what any decent human being would first do is that it doesn't serve his purpose.

Of course, I realize you are asking a rhetorical question, I just thought I'd pile-on to Turd Blossom.

7. That picture both haunts me and speaks for me.
Bush needs to stay out of public right now. I don't want to see him, I don't want to hear him, I don't want anything at all to do with him. Same for his entire Administration.

America needs time to grieve. We don't need to be subjected to his political manipulation while we're in pain.

Tossing them out on their rear ends would take care of that right quick.

8. Bush Going for More Photo Ops today in Louisiana and Mississippi
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/04/AR2005090401337.html

Buried on the second page of the story:

The White House is moving on several fronts to repair Bush's image and streamline its response effort. Bush will return to Louisiana and Mississippi today.

also ...

Chertoff is in charge of operational briefings for Bush, which start early each morning and occur periodically throughout the day. White House Chief of Staff Andrew H. Card Jr. is coordinating the hurricane team, and Karl Rove, the president's top political adviser, has been intimately involved in meetings. Bush, who typically works a fairly set schedule, has been working longer hours, getting in earlier than his usual 7 a.m. start and working as late as 9 p.m., at least two hours past his normal quitting time.

10. Once again the hypocrisy of the Republicans is on
display for everyone to see.

It's obvious they knew Friday afternoon that the "photo op" was a total flop.

These wankers don't give a shit about anything. Everything is all about them. Chertoff and Barbour on MTP this morning were nothing but short of disgusting liars.

I pray that I'm wrong about this, but I think Chimpy's gonna get a pass on this clusterf*ck. He's gonna skate on this too.

I hope KKKarl, Dan Bartlett and rest of them rot for what they've allowed to happen in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

I sure hope one shows up sometime soon. The America we believe in can't survive without an organized political party willing to fight for it.
