I am listening to the news and I think Condi just discovered that she is
black. Hey Condi, I am mostly white and I am blacker then you will ever be.

Not much of an accomplishment.

3. She's a phony opportunist. A class racist.
She doesn't care about anything over there if they're poor. She only cares if it got her pocketbook...

Putting on the face of false compassion for political points. Its time to tell the world she shopped for shoes while rome burned.

4. Condi Rice is black and she will always be no matter
what her ideology is

Nothing she believes and nothing espouses changes that.

You don't have to like Rice (goodness knows I don't) but don't deny her her heritage.

My grandmother was a very dark hued melungeon but my skin is white...and I don't know shit about being black. Condi does - whether or not her experiences as a black woman match some stereotype of how black folks ought to be...

8. Who the hell is anyone on DU to decide if Condi is black or not?
Yes, she's a willing shill of Bush's...but that doesn't change the fact that she is black.

How dare anyone on this board attempt to define who gets to be black and who doesn't just because they hold some stereotype about how black people should behave.

Did Bush stop being white because you disagree with him?

I don't like her and I know her beliefs (based on her choice to work for the Bush family) puts her at odds with the reality that is America, but none of that changes that she is a black woman.

10. No, what bush has done has nothing to do with being white.
I think the argument is this:

Bush stopped being HUMAN when he betrayed the human race. I don't think there's any need to elaborate on this!

Condi stopped being black when she failed to care in the first place, then tried to cover up the racism going on in NO, betraying every black out there.

13. Honey, you're born black, you die black
and there ain't no changing that inbetween

So why is it that Bush, the white boy, stops being human because of his actions...but Condi stops being black because of hers?

If people saw the black woman as equal to the white man, then wouldn't that mean that Condi stops being human for her actions as well?..instead of saying "she stopped being black"...

17. Yep.
I wasn't stating my own opinion, so I didn't clarify... but by supporting everything that's going on, yes, I believe that makes her no longer human as well. :)

The black thing was related completely toward the racism in the NO situation.

19. The racism in NO is palpable but then so is the racism on DU
And when people who read that start to exclaim "Oh but I've never seen racism on DU" - let me invite you to the Africa-American forum. Folks there will be more than happy to tell you about the racism on DU.

22. I agree with you 100%.
Its first manifestation is in the belief that African-Americans think monolithically, instead of as individuals.

24. That's part of it, yes
it's also because you have to see people as humans first, in their own right.. sort of the flip-side of the same coin.

28. That's a tough argument
Because you could then argue that racism is what has caused some african-americans to think that way in the first place. Repression of even the most mixed group of people will have that effect in the long run - look at classism. Either way, I think we can all agree that we should move beyond selective group thinking and into thinking as a whole. That's why we have society after all, isn't it?

In any case, this whole thread is one great big chapelle joke waiting to happen.

11. Doesn't change the fact she's class racist against poor, either.
Her own family had enough to go around. She's never lived there, and never known what its like or really cared.

14. I understand what you are saying, Solly Mack
But I'd really like to take away her rights to the black race, after denying so vehemently that this admin, her admin.'s denial of assistance to NOLA was not racist.

At the very least, she could choose not to comment. But to defend it--I'm totally done with her.

But, I understand and sincerely appreciate your comments. I've had this conversation personally many, many times (not about her). Unfortunately, I'm not going to defend her to anyone. You are a better person than me, for doing so... :hi:

But I am more than a little peeved that white people, of all damn people, are deciding who gets to be black and who doesn't.

Fuck that...white folks don't get a say in it.

25. I know you weren't.
..and you're right. Just wanted you to know, I understood what you were saying.

I'm hoping, people were implying that she doesn't seem to have a great deal of compassion or allegiance to those that share her skin color.

But maybe they didn't really know how to say that in more appropriate terms...?

12. I don't understand after what happened in NO how she can stand by Bush,
Bush, by doing this she is denying her own heritage.

I have been so angry this past week, I have cried a river of tears.

I will never forget the pictures that I have seen. My housemate is black she comes from NO, several of her family is missing, we can only hope they got out in time. Her Grandmother was in the hospital, and they didn't want leave her alone. My housemate is not doing well right now.

a weave joke is the best you could come up with? Attacking her hair or blackness like so many are doing in this thread is uncalled especially when we've got plenty of valid reasons not to like her.
