According to the local news this morning, the official dead count...
...in New Orleans is now at.....get this, 59 persons. The officials are really slow at counting it seems after seven days they have reclaimed and acknowledged only 59 dead bodies!

3. They don't want to freak out the average person so they keep the count low
The death count will be 10,000 IMHO.

4. We all have seen
more than that just in the photos and video online.

Sickening. Will we ever have a real count? I mean, including all of the people who perish in their attics, waiting to be rescued?

5. For tne millionith time- Body Recovery is starting to day- that is
the confirmed count as of now- before Recovery it will be higher than 59. Do you really think that is going to be the "offical" total number of deaths from this? If you are saying they are going to play with the numbers they will not be able to get away with that.

7. They are just being ignorant
Heard Ray Nagan (sic) on 60 minutes last night and he said do the math. There are 50,000 people unaccounted for. The death toll is going to be in the tens of thousands.

9. At this point, 59 is probably just the bodies piled on the doorstep.
The counter might not have even gone out into othe street yet.

The real body count doesn't start until rescue efforts are well under way, and they've only just started the house to house search.

10. that is bullshit
there are thousands of dead and we know it. And each dead body was a slow, painful death. The person was terrifed, alone, scared. Or worse, their loved ones watched them die. Like that little boy who had to kick him mommy into the water. Even if only 59 people died, it was too much, too many. And why? That is the question. Why was the help turned away?

11. Sadly, we've probably already seen over 59 bodies
just through news coverage.

12. That's the number of RECOVERED dead - so far.
Of course there are lots more. That's the number of recovered bodies, therefore it is the offical count.

Nobody is pretending that it is the final count, or that the numbers won't be horrible.

Take off the tinfoil hat.

14. Estimates have started to trickle that it will be more than 20,000
once they start collecting the deceased, processing missing/unaccounted persons reports..that was for NO ALONE.

I have heard throughout the morning some news stations have been quoting sources from FEMA and the state of Louisiana as using these figures, so no real link.

It's been reported on MSNBC, however, I couldn't find a direct link to that info.
