Christian Group Blames Katrina on Gays
http://www.pinknews.co.uk/news/articles/2005-60.html

An organization of Christian fundamentalists has stepped forward with claims the destruction brought on by Hurricane Katrina is God's judgment against New Orleans for holding festivals like the gay Southern Decadence party, which was scheduled for the state's Labour Day weekend and has since been cancelled.

“Although the loss of lives is deeply saddening, this act of God destroyed a wicked city,” said Repent America director Michael Marcavage on the organization's Web site. “From Girls Gone Wild to Southern Decadence, New Orleans was a city that had its doors wide open to the public celebration of sin. May it never be the same.”

The comments from Repent America came just minutes after New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin announced that Katrina probably killed thousands of people in the 'Crescent City'.

"Let us pray for those ravaged by this disaster,” Marcavage said. “However, we must not forget that the citizens of New Orleans tolerated and welcomed the wickedness in their city for so long.”

1. Marcavage:
"New Orleans was a city that had its doors wide open to the public celebration of sin. May it never be the same."

What an asshole.

2. Let me guess about this group
They are tax exempt.
They are on the faith based charity list
They receive government grants for their good works for mankind.

3. If their god is so set on us behaving in certain ways.
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 07:17 AM by RC
why doesn't s/he send us each an e-mail when we screw up. Or a least a plain english text message in the clouds? Make things easy to understand.
Why do we have to depend on religious groups to tell us what god is saying.
For all we know this group is just plain certifiable and Katrina was just a natural phenomenon and New Orleans just happened to be in its path.

5. These people need to be committed
to an insane asylum. Frankly, I'm sick and tired of their superstitious homophobic baiting every time anything happens in the world.

Do us a favor, Marcavage - go meet your Maker and rot in Hell. No one is interested in what you have to say.

8. These are sad, pathetic people.
Imagine being so filled with hate. Christianity is in danger of becoming synonymous with "self-righteous hypocrisy". Why don't these people just stay in their churches and SHUT UP?

9. Is this Guy's Vengeful "God" so stupid that he had to smite Gulfport...
...and Biloxi --white, conservative bastions-- just so he could knock off some Gays in NOLA?

Is his Vengeful/Fundie-God so blind to the fact that most of the people killed were straight, Baptist and Pentecostal Blacks who could care less about some Gay festival on Labor day?

Judge not lest ye be judged.
