Is anyone surprised that roberts will be chosen as chief justices? |
|
frankly, the only other choices * would have made were scalia or thomas
What option do the democrats have now? Will they filibuster?
I doubt it, there are enough democrats who already have said they are inclined to vote for roberts
Where are those people who ignored the supreme court as an issue in 2000 and 2004?
We are about to reap the consequences of those actions

4. for 6 years our representatives have given bush everything |
|
he asked for
It is NOT that WE are willing to sit back and accept it, our representatives are
I will write and contact them, but in my case I already know what will happen, Feinstein will vote for roberts, and Boxer will vote against
Feinstein is up for reelection in 2006, and I will use that against her, but I don't think it will sway her

11. I agree, and I will push that, but Feinstein will be quite difficult |
|
She is up for reelection in 2006, and perhaps that has some leverage

Moore has way too much baggage but someone exactly like him will turn up and get shoved down America's throat.

6. I AM a bit surprised! I really expected Cheney to insist on his buddy |
|
Scalia! Certainly I could be wrong, but I prefer Roberts over Scalia or Thomas because at least there's an unknown factor with Roberts, the other two are already know to be arrogant subborn RWers!

8. actually I thought it would be scalia also |
|
you indicate that you prefer roberts over scalia, but what do you really know about roberts?
Personally I think that choice is like would you rather be killed by a hungry tiger or a hungry lion

12. Well, not really. If the hungry tiger is female, you KNOW she will |
|
kill you. If the hungry lion is male, he MAY NOT because he always lets the female of the pride do the killing.
All I mean is that this is a situation of deciding between the devil you know and the devil you don't know. I prefer the devil I don't know, because at least there's a chance of a little judicial fairness with him...with Scalia or Thomas, there's no chance at all!

14. how about no one until after the 2006 election |
|
we still have the element of fillibuster
the civil rights record of roberts is awful
I don't think the excuse that I was just working for my clients cuts it. I am also very disturbed about his involvement in the 2000 supreme court decision to give bush the election

Damn he even went hunting with undead Cheney. He's been on his knees for that job for YEARS and he gets passed over for stepford justice?
Is Fat Tony gonna stand for that?

15. I almost included that in my post! I bet he's pissed too! |
|
Scalia also seems to me like the type that holds a grudge. Wonder how that will affect the ability of anyone else to be the CJ? I would think dissent and unrest inside the court wouldn't be a good thing, nor very easy for the new CJ to deal with!

18. You know, its one thing to confirm Roberts as a SC judge, |
|
but its another altogether to have to hold hearings on him for chief justice whe he hasn't even been confirmed yet! This is over the top. I would hope the dems don't just roll over on this. BTW, I think its a smack in the face to the existing justices who have served for years not to be considered for this position.
