3. So is mine. . .
I want to hear what Broussard has to say again. DHS and FEMA need to be exposed for the liars and murderers they are.

5. "covering their asses"
That's why they want to federalize the relief effort and take control from the state.

6. Not Sure
Brossaurd's politics (D or R), but he represents a majority white district that is as larger or larger than Orleans Parish.

Him & Harry Lee's comments have been telling (Harry Lee is a universally respected and outspoken asian sherrif of Jefferson Parish).

9. I don't care what Mr. Broussard or Mr. Lee's politics are, they both
strike me as men of integrity. Which is much more than I can say for Mike Brown and Chertoff.

8. Yesterday I was insulted and laughed at by some on DU
for DARING to imply that the bushies are holding back body count numbers. I cannot believe that such a level of naivete STILL exists on this board! Could be something else going on, but in the case of one of the * apologists, I know that's not the case.

11. Broussard is the proof that the media made that a race issue
There are plenty of white families that did not get help either, are still waiting for food and water and feel as abandonned .

By focusing on black families only, the media made that a story about how black people are incompetent, on welfare, and violent.

Careful because these stories both help Bush cover his ass and create more racism in certain places (and I saw it myself).

This should be largely about FEMA and Bush incompetence.

13. I do believe this was a racial issue
and the media coverage has exposed the bush administration as out of touch with reality and uncompassionate towards the needy. He is NOT being allowed to cover his ass. Not in the least.

14. So Broussard is a fool?
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 09:13 AM by Mass
Now, if you cant see we are falling into Bush's trap by saying it is racism only and that only black people were affected, I disagree.

This is utter incompetence and corruption that are in play here, and that does not concern only black people. White people have to react too. Their lives are at risk as well.

I'm not saying there is no racism, but the racism is in the fact that so many black people are poor, and that nobody cared from the beginning. The answer to the crisis was unanimously bad for those who stayed behind, whether they were black or white.

CORRUPTION AND INCOMPETENCE.

ON EDIT : One I forgot: These people do not believe in governement:
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/05/opinion/05krugman.html

What caused that paralysis? President Bush certainly failed his test. After 9/11, all the country really needed from him was a speech. This time it needed action - and he didn't deliver.

But the federal government's lethal ineptitude wasn't just a consequence of Mr. Bush's personal inadequacy; it was a consequence of ideological hostility to the very idea of using government to serve the public good. For 25 years the right has been denigrating the public sector, telling us that government is always the problem, not the solution. Why should we be surprised that when we needed a government solution, it wasn't forthcoming?
