Jamming Communications in New Orleans! (redux)
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x1750585

The moderator locked the thread, pointing out that it is not a credible source.

Is this source credible enough?
On Meet the Press, Aaron Broussard, president of Jefferson Parish, La. stated that (yesterday) FEMA cut his emergency communication lines. The statement can be heard at about 25 minutes, 30 seconds into this podcast:

<http://podcast.msnbc.com/audio/podcast/MSNBC-MTP.xml>

Wayne Madsen (http://waynemadsenreport.com/ -- second editorial down as of this post) points out that DU is "...locking information on the radio jamming in Louisiana and the corruption involved in FEMA hurricane disaster preparedness (IEM Team contract).”

Madsen cites DU (along with DailyKos) of having a particular agenda.

I don’t understand what is going on here. DU is my main source for news and opinions. Is Madsen right?

1. from what I have gathered about Madsen,
is that DU, meaning those posting on DU, have regularly refuted many of his claims, and he maybe has a bone to pick with DU. Correct me if wrong.

2. DU And DailyKos Have A Clear Partisan Agenda

For a hint, look at the name of the site.

On Edit: Madsen is inconsistent. He hits homers, and he strikes out.

5. I guess I was concerned

about the msnbc link. Is an interview with Aaron Broussard on Meet the Press not credible?

I know nothing of Daily Kos or Wayne Madsen. What concerns me is the lack of due diligence on the part of the moderator to check out the source cited by Mr. Madsen in the original post.

The subject (a critical one, indeed) was locked down based on one's opinions of Wayne Madsen without checking out the story.

So, why, for instance, wasn't the topic moved, if inappropriate for LBN, based on Wayne Madsen being used as the source? The communications, apparently were cut by FEMA, according to the President of Jefferson Parish's eyewitness account. Facts are facts, irrespective of the messenger.

Now, shall we dicuss Madsen's credibility again?

11. Yes, why not discuss his credibility
The moderator locked a story that Madsen still has not provided any source or proof for, about either a pirate radio station (which he wanted bombed at once, an excellent liberal reaction) or the Pentagon jamming radio frequencies. That was on late Saturday night. On Sunday, the President of Jefferson Parish says his landlines were 'cut' by an official, and the sherrif restored them. Clearly that has absolutely nothing to do with Madsen's claims. The moderator was perfectly correct in locking the thread in LBN. Madsen's credibility remains extremely low (you haven't seen his stories before - I have, and place little faith in them).

There was no 'lack of due diligence' on the moderator's part (and note that trying to make that the topic of a discussion will itself get your thread locked, since we're not here to second-guess volunteer moderators).

12. I will use this post as a conduit to issue an apology.
I was confusing the two issues. All my tempest-in-a-teapot was that I thought the cut phone lines story wasn't being taken seriously. Imagine my chagrin when I realized the Madsen article was ONLY about jammed radio. I apologize to all who replied to this thread and hope we can remain comrades no matter how confused any of us become.

4. Madsen calls himself a journalist
but is really a blogger, and so cannot be cited as a credible source for news. Note that these are 2 different stories - one about jamming of frequencies, another about cutting physical communications lines.

I think Madsen may be a bit annoyed at being declared unreliable by DU (and DailyKos). But the fact that his original story has still not been backed up in any way at all shows that he is. Mark him For Entertainment Purposes Only.

6. first off Wayne uses the old "we have confirmed" line without telling
who his source is.

Aarron Broussard is a different story altogether, because he's a primary source.

7. Oh, right, we're "squishy democrats" here at DU, all right.
And we have an agenda of covering for the Bu$h administration.

Right.

8. At the risk of sounding repetitive
I care not a whit about 'squishy democrats' or any other opinions from Madsen's (or anyone's site). What should be the focus here is that the message was disregarded without checking out any interviews on Meet the Press.

I don't want to hear about Wayne Madsen's opinions, Lyndon LeRouche, Jeff Rense, anti-Zionist theories, or the broom from the Witch of the West.

10. Would love to believe Madsen, but he does have a credibility problem.
There is a place for sarcasm and pure nonsense on DU. But anyone who submits a serious piece and isn't able to provide sources and documentation that will weather the toughest scrutiny will be murdered by our members.
Our government is stuck in the muck of politics. The msm is severely compromised. The administration lives to fabricate. There must be one place where we can turn to for the truth, and that is why it is so important that our members hold these author's feet to the fire.
Madsen may have the purist of intentions, and we may love to hear what he's saying, but in the end, we must continue to require solid proof.
