How "pissed off" is Judge Antonin Scalia ?
Since Bush has come out and announced Roberts for the Chief Justice position? Scalia had worked hard with the conservatives to get that job and now, George Bush has stabbed him in the back. After all, people know that he would be just as "conservative" as William Rehnquist. But, they don't know how Roberts will vote on a lot of issues - no matter if they think they "might" know. Few can see how Roberts can be "more conservative " than Rehnquist. Yet, Bush has nominated him for the Chief Justice position. What the hell was he thinking! Scalia just may be pissed off enough to resign and go into the private sector.

1. Scalia fulfilled his obligation in helping
to appoint the shrub in 2000. He is no longer needed.

2. Maybe Gore should ask for an emergency rehearing in Bush
v. Gore. Wouldn't that be a trip?

3. Roberts is younger........
longer time left to screw the american people. Scalia understands that, of course. He's a team player.

6. I was just gonna say that.
Scalia understands the game.

CJOTUS is rarely used as a promotion for a sitting associate justice. Rehnquist's elevation was actually an exception to the rule.

10. I doubt that
The GOP gets people to do what they want by promising them things. I bet they were promising BOTH Scalia and Thomas the top seat for years. One thing about the wacked far right is that everything they do they do for their own personal selves... they will stoop to the lowest of the low as long as they get what they want.

I'm convinced that this is the reason that Bush promotes people who have stooped the lowest for him... payback. Scalia (and probably Thomas, too) didn't get paid... and now they'll want revenge for getting shafted. That's another distinguishing characteristic for the lowest of GOP whores... if they don't get their payback, they'll crawl over mountains on their hands and knees to get revenge.

Scalia isn't going anywhere, and neither is Thomas. They'll get their best revenge right where they are, and the GOP won't be able to do a damn thing about it.

The Chief Justice chair is the highest rung on the ladder for these guys... there is nothing else they can be promised to make amends for not putting their ass in that chair, and no other comparable position to offer. They will be pissed, and hell bent for revenge.

14. I don't think
Scalia or Thomas will do anything.

A) they're lapdogs;

B) I'm sure Rove has something on them to make sure they continue to toe the party line like good little doggies.

15. Don't be so sure
A) They sure weren't lap dogs on Eminant Domain... and they were most likely good little doggies because they were being promised that CJ chair.

B) I'm sure they have FAR worse on the Bush admin then the Bush admin has on them.

Think about it... why was it so vital that Bush put Bolton into the UN position when there were plenty of other cretons just as nasty as him if not worse? Because Bolton wanted that job as payback, and if they didn't give it to him, he would take revenge.

There's always plenty of other willing whores to fill in any position. Rummy should have been sacked, but he never will be because of what he knows. Rove should have been sacked, but won't be because of what he knows. That's always the danger of letting the whores in on your dirty secrets... they'll happily whore away UNLESS they don't get paid.

This is why Bush keeps putting incompetants into key positions and even promoting the most incompetant ones... it's all payback. It's also why he won't fire someone who desperately needs it... worry about them taking revenge.

4. Scalia will actually be running things anyway. Roberts is not experienced
nor qualified for this job. It's a quick political fix with all the players knowing that Scalia will be in charge behind the scenes.

12. Right. Which seems to be how Bush runs his government. Find
the person who is the least qualified for the job and then back them up when they totally screw up. No wonder Bush failed at so many business ventures during his life. He's just plain stupid and doesn't learn a damn thing.

11. Loyalty up to a point.
Scalia was praised, built up, and was implicitly promised the CJ seat.

But y'know, loyalty only takes you so far in this administration.

* found a candidate who can out-Scalia Scalia and who is 15 years younger with more staying power. This guy owes * big time. * owns him.

Although both justices would not vote for impeachment, Roberts would set the tone for "Don't even think of trying . . ."

Yeah, Scalia's not going anywhere and there's nothing he could or would do for revenge.

To quote Otter from Animal House: "You screwed up. You trusted us!"

13. Big Tony Likes Being Under The Radar
Being Chief Justice lets you wear fancy robes and you probably get the nicer office, but it's also a lot of work and compromise. It's that person's responsibility to pass along the casework and bring about consensus on issues. Sadly Rehnquist was very effective in doing this...thus the Chimpster in the White House.

Yep, Roberts can't be any worse than Rehnquist, and it frees Big Tony to continue to play right wing hatchet man. By being Chief Justice, Tony may have had to accomodate his style for the sake of "national unity"...now he and Thomas can snipe from the right and give this regime the real cover they've enjoyed.

BTW...I keep saying we shouldn't rush this process along. Now that meeester booosh has changed the game by nominating Roberts to Chief Justice, we're gonna need more time to find out about this man's temperment in working with the other justices. Does he play well with them? Will he share his toys?

Meanwhile the court opens as scheduled no matter new members are appointed or not...and right now I kinda like the way things sit.
