98. You can do it here...totally up to you...
Everything is still getting written down with time/date, etc...

It's good to someone recording stuff!!

You see some of the stuff from last night? They suspended search and rescue cuz it got dark outside, had the army soldier holed up in a NO hotel, under orders to NOT leave it til morning...
People in outlying counties still getting no guidance on how to get people their medicines...state doc said that they were NOT set up to deal with chronic illnesses/medicines.

As a health care professional, it all makes my head want to explode over the feds lack of planning for "what if's" prior to this disaster.

There is sooo much slipping under the radar here..so much recklessness and unpreparedness (if that is a word)..total chaos on the ground vs the "everything is fine" news reports.

108. Nope...
I've heard several "they don't want to leave" but nothing about their pets.
Only animal related transmission I heard was when St Bernard parish was saying that they had sick, aggressive dogs running the streets trying to attack people..they then asked for a vet team to help with the stray dog population.

St Bernard parish seems to be the red headed stepchild in all of this..most the problems and "dropped balls" seem to effect them the most. St Taminey wouldn't even let a convoy of replacement vehicles headed to St Bernard go thru their parish as the convoy was TRYING to get to St Bernard's.

St Bernard's had to get the state involved just to get their convoy thru!

9. Here's A List Of Lots Of Scanners...
I found this on a radio website...thought it might be of interest...

http://www.radioreference.com/wiki/index.php/Hurricane_Katrina#Louisiana

The following is known about Public Safety Communications Systems in the affected areas.

If you have updates, please add them below!

Louisiana
NOPD's Wide Area EDACS ProVoice system is currently DOWN and NOT operational. The system survived the initial hurricane, but subsequent flooding has knocked out generators. Currently, NOPD is working off of NPSPAC-1 and NPSPAC-2, with 1 being dedicated to all east bank operations, and 2 being dedicated to west bank operations. NOFD and EMS operations are unknown at this time.
St Tammany Parish's EDACS ProVoice system is currently DOWN and NOT operational. Units are using legacy VHF repeaters (Covington Fire?) for all communications.
Most sites for the Lousisiana State Smartzone system are operational, however reports indicate that the North Shore Smartzone sites are currently down. Communications are occuring on the Smartzone system in the New Orleans Metro Area.
The Bridge City Site is Down
The LaPlace Site is UP
Northshore Sites are Down
Ad-Hoc Communications Systems
Motorola has delivered a 700 MHz Communications trailer to the Louisiana State Police ,however it is unknown where it is being used.
Remote agencies on site are using the following:
Orange County FL Units - 800 MHz NPSPAC Simplex Direct
Austin, TX Units - 800 MHz NPSPAC Simplex Direct
Mississippi
Harrison County EDACS system is currently operational
Gulfport - Unknown
Biloxi - Unknown
Alabama
Mobile - Unknown

Talk of having an "important meeting tonight" and the local workers need to be "rehabbed".

Local firefighters/first responders are NOT wanting to be replaced by FEMA <?>

The firefighters are complementing Canadian Rescue Team 1 saying that if everyone did like them, things would be great.

Local firefighters planning to do "7 days on, 14 days off".

"Our guys were alot luckier than alot of people out right now."

Frustration over "these 2 large FEMA groups showed up"--- "everything is getting better now, though"

-----------------
from what it sounds like, they are trying to pull the local first responders and replace them by, maybe FEMA workers?? Local responders are refusing to leave.

42. How to listen to the scanners in Winamp
I had problems from just clicking the link with the Firefox download manager opening and trying to download the link.

In Winamp click File - then Play URL - a box will open that says Open URL. Cut and paste the link into the box then click Open. Sometimes you have to hit Play more than once to connect.

I've also found it helps if you use a pair of headphones plugged into your speakers.

The channels I've had the most luck connecting to:

http://radio.scannerbuff.net:8008/hurricane
http://www.radioreference.com:8080/lspbtr.m3u
http://205.252.89.181:8000/live

You can find other links here:
http://scannerbuff.net/hurricane.php

I think someone else has posted other scanner site links.

You can download Winamp free here: http://www.winamp.com/player/free.php

I don't use WMP but I would think it's pretty much the same.

I hope this helps someone.

And if the frigging military is down there, don't they have the kind of air transport to carry vehicles..if they can haul tanks to the Middle East, I'm thinking that they could get 12 regular vehicles into St Bernard since they are needed for law enforcement purposes!

If "little things" like this are so complicated, is it any wonder this whole disaster is screwed up!

Needs someone's potassium refilled, we can't check the person's level to see if they should take the potassium. DMAT team here but the person needs their meds refilled, can we do that without an MD order.
Do we need to wait for an order to get it refilled?

Do you have the prescription in front of you?
Yes we do

Is the pt coherent to tell you if that is their prescription
Patient is oriented times 4

Dr on radio now:

Med provider asks her question as stated above telling her:
"All local hospitals closed, no pharmacies"

70. there's nobody out here, at all.
--the scanner is really quiet tonight, normally there is more activity and less static: i think this means that most of the ng, etc. are sleeping until daylight. there is often a burst of activity just around daylight..

i will continue to monitor the scanner until morning if possible --
