The New Orleans convention center was easily accessible by boat

My pastor is a former regional pastor for my denomination and thus is very widely traveled. We were discussing the hurricane yesterday and he told me that even in normal times many people went to the convention center via a boat on the Mississippi. I think this should be pointed out so that people can understand just how ridiculous the notion is that we couldn't get to the convention center.
