Wow, the look on Poppy's face as he listens to Clinton. |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 09:23 AM by highplainsdem
Clinton brought up his own administration providing more funds for the levees, and his different approach to FEMA, and Poppy looks as though he'd like to kill him. The disgusting laughter from this mostly-GOP audience, which was heard after Poppy said that his son can "take the criticism" and that if anyone criticizes W around Babs they'll "need a flak jacket," ended abruptly when Clinton started speaking some truth, too.

at how he defended his administration, and let it be known that he had criticism of FEMA, while remaining focussed on those who are still suffering.

that he had things in place in 1995 and Bush has decimated those plans.

3. Well I just hope Clinton starts expressing himself |
|
to these people. I think he set them up. He made them all think he was their friends and got into their club and now he can tell them personally where to go shove it.
I noticed other Clinton administration officials popping out too. This is good. I think they've been waiting for this opportunity.

10. Blanco sent for and hired the former head of FEMA (under Clinton) as |
|
her advisor. He was an excellent leader and many of the top FEMA administrtors are still quietly loyal to him. Brown has tied their hands and these are the people who KNOW what to do at a time like this.

13. Well, I know.....and here's where it went: |
|
Sep 1, 6:06 PM (ET)
By RON FOURNIER <snip> Just last year, the Army Corps of Engineers sought $105 million for hurricane and flood programs in New Orleans. The White House slashed the request to about $40 million. Congress finally approved $42.2 million, less than half of the agency's request.
Yet the lawmakers and Bush agreed to a $286.4 billion pork-laden highway bill that included more than 6,000 pet projects for lawmakers. Congress spent money on dust control for Arkansas roads, a warehouse on the Erie Canal and a $231 million bridge to a small, uninhabited Alaskan island.
How could Washington spend $231 million on a bridge to nowhere - and not find $42 million for hurricane and flood projects in New Orleans? It's a matter of power and politics. <snip>

11. "If anyone criticizes W around Babs they'll 'need a flak jacket.'" |
|
Ironically, Poppy has identified the heart of the problem that he helped to create. George H.W. was an absent father during most of W's youth, leaving the discipline to Babs. W was not held accountable unless he did something that embarassed his parents personally (like asking Babs' good friend at an Xmas party, "So what's sex like after 50?"). Otherwise, he's been given a free pass, has not had to consider the consequences of his injuries, or even feel a decent amount, if any, of remorse. They've protected him and now he feels he's omnipotent. Babs will continue to protect him as he takes the rest of us into the depths of Hell. She is as much of our problem as he is.

14. Then Clinton said to Bush Sr.: "I got your back" |
|
And said that it's too early to assign blame. "We had a 9/11 Commission, we may have a Katrina Commission". He said we need to focus on helping the victims over the long haul, which is what Bush Sr. was saying.
IMNSHO, Clinton wasn't playing "gotcha" with Bush Sr., dissing Smirk or anything remotely like that. He was talking about this new charity initiative for Katrina. Nothing else. Partly because (like it's been reported in a number of places) on a personal level, Clinton and the Bushs like each other. Another reason, IMNSHO, Clinton also believes that he needs to be "above the fray", both because he is a former President of the US (rather than President of the Dems) and because he thinks it's a better political strategy for Hillary and the Dem party.

|
Imagine having Dubya for your son. Sort of sends horror careening up and down your spine, doesn't it?
Poppy is much smarter than Jr. and knows very well just how badly Jr. screwed up even though he can't probably admit it even to himself. So like any other parent, he is left with trying to smooth it over for his own peace of mind.

16. surely clinton heard an earful this week about his earlier CNN remarks |
|
his remarks last week essentially exonerating bush (the lesser) of any responsibility must have been met with the reality of the situation as he learned more.
clinton stood there and said to the world, "ask me, but not now what the hell i think about this fuck up." whewn he said that he has his own ideas about how FEMA should be run it was a cannon ball across bush's bow on this matter. also stating that congress should focus on this insted of "bidness as usual" was a clear strike at the GOP agenda on tax cuts for millionaires.

All Clinton would do by blasting Baby Bush and their incompetence would do is deflect the focus from the victims and to himself. The MSM would be talking about it for the next 3 days.
