Why did the media ignore the 18 buses that evacuated the Ritz |
|
when the buses for the Superdome were not allowed in?
I think I found and answer and will post the source as soon as possible. My understanding is that those staying in the Ritz were NIH employees (scientists) attending a conference there. While all of America was being told that rescue efforts were being halted because of violence, looting, and disorder it wasn't too risky to get these people out and they were in Baltimore within hours after the rescue. One women who was rescued from there even had the nerve to COMPLAIN about how bad it was to have nothing to eat except what was in the hotel restaurant and how long it took to get them out of there.
I will say no more. Except that this story was dropped like a hot potato by the MSM.

1. Not excusing the media but... |
|
the people in the Ritz, if they didn't have radio or TV, had no idea how much worse off others were (and they might be really dim about the realities of poverty). Also, it seems that the evacuation was a swap in exchange for authorities taking over the building for official use. From where we're sitting, the whole thing seems beyond disgusting but it may seem a bit more sensible on the ground, particularly in the absence of anyone really in charge.

2. Just don't buy it. If those buses could get in...they could get in |
|
at the convention center and the dome.

3. They didn't get in when others couldn't. |

They shut down the evacuation of the poor temporarily and loaded the hotel guests in front of them. That was the inexcusable part. I really think the lousy timing came from officials commandeering the building. Saying,"get out" to a bunch of well-connected white people produces negotiations and then concrete results (like being given bus service out of town). Those hotel guests were not likely to just meekly head to the back of the line. From a practical standpoint, it would be pointless for them to be mixed in with people going to a shelter because they don't need a shelter, they just need transportation out of town so they can get home. I'm not saying the response hasn't been revolting, because it has. I just think there are better targets than this one, even though it looks juicy.

6. Those were the first set of buses that they actually paid for. |
|
What they finally ended up on were buses taken from the general evacuation effort.
