Who are the Hollywood-types who have already spoken out?

Might be good to keep a running list. So far I know of:

Sean Penn
not sure what he said on TV

Celine Dione
(criticised gov. response)

Macy Gray
(asking for the famous to come help with the people)

the rapper guy (forgot name) who said Bush didn't care about black people.

who else?

12. His music is actually really good and I
am a Springsteen / Bob Seger kind of guy. West's music has a moral compass to it, he is passionate about a lot of left wing issues in his songs.

buddy played and produced on his two albums, it is nice to hear a guy speak up on serious issues. He rocks in
my opinion.

7. Sean Penn
Sean Penn was interviewed live on MSNBC earlier today with a New Orleans historian (don't remember his name). The two of them have been going house to house in a boat, rescuing people.

According to what they said, there are still LOTS of people in their homes - many who are not able to come to their roof or even windows when helicopters fly over. They said rescuers have to go in by boat to find everyone. Penn said he thought there were about 1/6th the forces needed in New Orleans right now. He did comment about the number of National Guard in Iraq that are not available to help here at home. They said that they wished more citizens with boats would help rescue people - especially small boats that can get around to the harder to manuver areas. They also said there are not enough resources for rescue volunteers, especially medical resources. Penn said it is easy to find the makeshift boat launches - look for where a road ends into water - and encouraged medical people go there to at least give tetanus shots.

8. Wynton (sp?) Marsalis was on Larry King last night
And didn't get OVERLY political but did say that America's values are not being reflected by its administration. (Paraphrased).

You should have heard Larry trying to get him to stop...he tried to interrupt about 3-4 times.

9. Pierse Brosnan
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 10:07 AM by corksean
Irish actor Pierce Brosnan has slammed US President George W Bush for the way he has handled the Hurricane Katrina disaster in America's deep south.

The James Bond star is also critical of Bush's stance on environmental issues - particularly his refusal to sign the Kyoto Protocol which aims to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

The 52-year-old said: "This man called President Bush has a lot to answer for. I don't know if this man is really taking care of America.

"This government has been shameful."

----------
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Hollywood actors Tim Robbins, John Cusack and pop group REM are among a clutch of stars and musicians mobilising to help shelter refugees who were left homeless by Hurricane Katrina, organisers said.

The luminaries, who also include musicians Moby, Green Day and the Beastie Boys, joined a drive launched by left-wing grass-roots political group MoveOn.org Civic Action to help shelter victims, MoveOn.org said.

"It is crucial that the victims of Katrina get safe housing," said Michael Stipe of REM. As a band, we felt that promoting the service is essential -- literally a matter of life and death," he said.

The group of celebrities has already produced public service announcements for www.hurricanehousing.org, a website aimed at finding lodgings for the more than 100,000 people displaced by the storm and ensuing floods with MoveOn.org members.

28. We can add Oprah to the list after this week.
I CAN NOT image her keeping quiet on this.

Oprah actually does care, I mean I may not dig her show, but I can't say anything bad about anyone who builds schools in Africa in her spare time.

Go Oprah Go!

Levee Break Plugged a Week After Katrina
AP - 43 minutes ago

NEW ORLEANS - A week after Hurricane Katrina swept through, engineers plugged the levee break that had swamped much of the city and floodwaters began to recede, but along with the good news came the mayor's direst prediction yet: as many as 10,000 dead.
